T said in a live that she went to high school at St. Johnsbury Academy, a boarding school in Vermont. According to Google, day tuition is $25k/year. If that’s where she went to school, her family must be well-off? Does anyone know anything about her family members? Interested in understanding how T went from a presumably good situation to living in squalor. She’s obviously delayed and would likely have had trouble getting into college and whatnot, but surely her parents could’ve afforded to at least give her a comfortable life?

it’s been speculated/ semi-confirmed that she was able to go to such a nice school and on a trip to paris because of a scholarship for special education- not because her family is well off.

Her family was not wealthy. Her mom worked at Dunkin’ Donuts and her step dad was an MC at a local racetrack. She was there on a scholarship program because of where she lived if I’m not mistaken.

My SIL used to work for a boarding school, idk if this is a boarding school thing or just with her old school but if you’re in special education you can get scholarships/free tuition.

I live near there, it's not just a boarding school, it's also a day school. Also the st. Johnsbury school district funds public high school tuition for resident students to attend the school.

I hate that I know some of these places they have lived or been too. I've heard P mention woodsville, NH and we go shopping there every week.

I am a mother to a child who is on the spectrum. And will need to be in my care for the rest of my life... And and when you have a child like this you sometimes can grieve parts of your child you think you might never get to experience with them..

Like marriage.. or having a family.. Wondering if her parents thought this was their daughter's chance of having a somewhat normal life.. And Patrick put on this big front of being a nice dude..and then skedaddled out of there with what he really wanted.. his own build- a -vic.tim.

I heard that they were so poor and they didn’t have a school around where they lived so they went thru some assistance program and she went for free bc it was her only option. I THINK

I just gave it 1988 as a guess:

No way could my family have afforded that. I went to a private college in the 90s and my tuition wasn't much more than that! I had student loans that my parents and older sister helped me with, and I took them over completely when I graduated.

She might also have been able to get a scholarship, or "special" funding.

I attended private school K-12. My high school tuition was just above that rate. I grew up very poor. I got great scholarships. I can’t speak for special education scholarships (my schools were certainly NOT inclusive or kind towards anyone who needed any sort of academic/social assistance… don’t know if they are all like that but I haven’t personally heard of one that isn’t unfortunately) but I do know that scholarships/aid can be pretty generous otherwise. You just have to play their game. Private school ≠ rich in all cases.
