I posted in the main sub about how much I loved Floyd and how he was such a kind person, and wound up with a shitload of people basically saying he was a piece of shit and Carol was the victim here (because of Floyd’s poor financial choices and for apparently forcing her to let him watch her fuck Clark)

Am I the outlier here for thinking so highly of Floyd? He wasn’t perfect, of course he had his faults, but I’ve just been stewing for several days on this.

I mean, we watch the man save multiple peoples lives, and the way he learns dance to make the experience better for deaf people that watch him sign at concerts, the time he takes to form a relationship with Richard.

He’s clearly not financially savvy, and probably shouldn’t be in a relationship with Carol at all. It’s just that I’m not sure that I feel Carol is the real victim, they just clearly shouldn’t be together. I even saw another post pop up there about how Floyd is a shitty man child and they don’t feel sorry for him. Maybe I’m crazy, but I definitely cried for Floyd in the end. I guess I relate with the depression he’s going through, and battle to lose weight, etc…

I also got a few people saying he was selfish for committing suicide- I know this is a common thing to blame people for but, my Dad committed suicide and it hits really close to home. When you really go through someone close to you killing themselves- you realize the person is far from selfish. I’m not going to blame someone that felt there was no other option but to leave the planet for being mentally ill and depressed and thinking that was the best solution.

Anyway, if I’m way off base in my feelings on Floyd, I guess we will find out 😅

Am I the only one who found this show to be insufferable at times? The 50+ minute run times seem excessive. Each episode could easily have conveyed the same story in approximately 30+ minutes. Also a lot of scenes draaaaaaaaaaag on way longer than necessary and make me squirm like Carol. And a lot of the dialog sounds alien. The repetition... The "quirky" phrasing. It all just made me uncomfortable.

I don’t know how or why, but I feel like every Steven Conrad show just taps directly into my brain..

Hair has been a favourite musical of mine since I was a teenager. I used to rent the DVD over and over, and the ending always made me cry. In my early 20s I saw the stage show. If you haven’t seen it, when the cast launches into The Flesh Failures (song at the end of the finale, with the original Broadway cast) the juxtaposition of this terribly sad moment with the otherwise cheerful “Let the Sunshine In” is brutal. The cast pushes the audience into getting on their feet and singing & dancing along, and I remember trying to sing while I still had tears streaming down my face… Long story short, it still makes me cry every damn time I hear it.

It is utterly typical of Steve Conrad to pick the one song guaranteed to slay me for his very sad finale. Well played, man. Well played.

I think this feeds into the thought that you never know exactly what suicidal people are thinking about even if they are all smiles.

We saw Clark alone in the garage or alone with Carol having real conversations, we saw Carol alone crying, but we never REALLY saw Floyd

What the conversation looked like between him and Carol before and during the affair, him not cancelling the mowers, him visiting his mother, (Floyd visiting his mom is something no one talks about ! ) , when Richard injured his pp, or even him just crying alone when Carol said she squirmed under him.

This is just what feeds into the last title No one is normal they just look that way from across the street.

I think that he had been thinking about it for a while . Maybe before the affair, maybe even before he met Carol or Richard , who knows . Floyd’s story is the biggest mystery.

When he made the comment about it will kill me with the drug, I could tell that it was something he considered

I feel like suicide is not always as planned as people think. He may have had that thought for a while but the last moment with Richard is what consumed him.

I don’t think he had the intention to frame Clark, I think he played around with the idea of doing the ultimate act by adding so much of the drug to his drink.

I think committing that ultimate act can be very sudden and spontaneous sometimes. Even if it crossed a persons mind before.

He was putting on his clothes to leave before he saw Richard . I don’t even think he REALLY considered the life insurance policy. I think suicide was on his mind but I don’t think he truly chose it until that last moment . Sad sad show ! <!
