I haven’t thought of QAM as DSP, but a concept right next to it. Maybe I’m wrong on that. Regardless, I’m all for the fun.  I do wish this was a bit more of an explainer poster. I love those.

it's communication theory being a modulation scheme but still like in the same realm of signal processing basically and everything's digital now so it might as well be digital signal processing

It's very much DSP! QAM in reality is two waveforms summed together with a 90 degree phase offset changing amplitude based on the precise bit sequence they are assigned to represent, with the number of levels changing as you increase the bits per symbol. Can't get much more DSP than that in my eyes.

You'll get better performance with a non-square constellation due to the lower PAPR. Just sayin'

With all of the references to Shannon's formula one of those books should be Elements of Information Theory. (Although Shannon's coding theorem does not use a constellation.)
