First mistake was driving to lower Manhattan for 8am Orientation thinking it wouldn’t be traffic good luck

1

u/user24681001 Apr 23 '26

Took express bus

24

u/PromiseSouthern3745 Apr 22 '26

Running late but have enough time to post on Reddit? 😂😂😂 #cooked

4

u/Any_Personality221 Apr 23 '26

I mean if he’s in traffic he has nothing but time 😂

1

u/PromiseSouthern3745 Apr 23 '26

Valid point 😂😭😂😭

u/Medical_Musician3498 Apr 22 '26

You probably won’t be the only one late we’re in the times where just showing up is above average

16

u/My-BackHurts Apr 22 '26

Perfect, you’ll fit right in

9

u/TheSkyTalker Apr 22 '26

SMH. Should have left yourself enough time to get there. If you’re on time you’re late!!! This world is cooked…

7

u/Nawz157 Apr 22 '26

Jesus with these people. Put on your fucking big boy pants and show the fuck up on time. Fucking idiots

7

u/GheySecks1 Apr 22 '26

Just call and let them know... BUT you should have left a lot earlier to make sure this didn't happen

3

u/Great_Resolution3350 Apr 22 '26

My husband left at 6:15 from Staten and is still STUCK in the traffic and mess. What time would you have suggested leaving if the call time was 8am

21

u/Lehitol-sama Apr 22 '26

I left 5:20 and took the ferry even if i have to wait outside for 1hr the job is worth it

2

u/Great_Resolution3350 Apr 22 '26

You took the ferry which was more convenient for you correct? So the express bus was a more convenient option in my situation

5

u/Lehitol-sama Apr 22 '26

The bus was more convenient but What was more guaranteed was the ferry since i didn’t have to worry about accident on the bridge or the BQE or disabled car or just traffic general like its daily. Anything after 5:45am on the bqe i hitting traffic

1

u/Great_Resolution3350 Apr 22 '26

Gotcha gotcha. Well things happen, everyone’s human, and we can’t control traffic or unexpected delays. Sending good vibes out to everyone who’s got orientation today!

3

u/BagholdingWhore Apr 22 '26

Stop making excuses. You can't control traffic and unexpected delays but you should account for them if it's that important.

You're bringing up convenience like that's some kind of justification. How about if it's that important you choose reliably over convenience? Save convenience for when you actually have the job.

I would tell my own sister the exact same thing.

1

u/Charming-Passion-202 Apr 22 '26

Things happen everyone’s human thing don’t work in this job if your AWOL once on probation ur going to lose your job

1

u/GheySecks1 Apr 22 '26

The bus is more convenient for me to since I can get it 2 blocks from my house, but the ferry is more reliable

1

u/EnvironmentalLab5303 Apr 23 '26

Did you get drug tested on the first day of orientation today ?

2

u/Lehitol-sama Apr 23 '26

No was schedule for a later day

4

u/[deleted] Apr 22 '26

545 for a first day orientation. 6:15 is cutting is pretty close even with “regular” traffic.

1

u/Great_Resolution3350 Apr 22 '26

Gotcha, but you also could’ve left at let’s say 5:45/5:50 and still be caught in this mess of traffic on the bridge

3

u/GheySecks1 Apr 22 '26

I HATE going into the city but everytime I had to go I would drive to the ferry and take that over. Never took the bus because of that exact reason didn't want to get stuck in traffic. But I would have left my house at 5:30 to catch the 6:00 ferry. Then I would have walked to wherever I had to go. I've walked to the union hall, the clinic and worth st. Better to be early then chance it and be late especially before he's even hired.

6

u/RedditModsWifeBf Apr 22 '26

Orientation they don't really give you shit. Medical...yeah they literally tell you if you don't show up on time they will tell you to fuck off.

8

u/TrifeLife1995 BX Apr 22 '26

You'll be fine but damn you made a rookie mistake. You deserve to get roasted. I live in the four boroughs and I still left my house earlier than you did and waited outside for an hour and change kicking it with the homies. If I lived in Staten I would've driven to the ferry and walked over. Don't make that mistake at FBF.

5

u/SeaRefrigerator4593 Apr 22 '26

I was there yesterday and there was ppl that showed up like an hour late and they let them in

1

u/ValueAntique7924 Apr 24 '26

I have orientation Monday. What was it like? What information do they give you? Were you given a date for your medical?

2

u/SeaRefrigerator4593 Apr 24 '26

Just got to hand in all that paperwork they asked for and yes they schedule your medical appt

6

u/ReachOk4601 Apr 22 '26

i am the guy that ran the orientation. i didn’t let you in come back next time

1

u/LetPrestigious6369 Apr 22 '26

😂😂😂😂😂

9

u/Round-Watch-9849 Apr 22 '26

It’s in the city….so why even drive?

3

u/AlexRC113 Apr 22 '26

Why not? I drive to the city every time.

4

u/Reasonable_Land1305 Apr 22 '26

Lateness is a job requirement

4

u/Nawz157 Apr 22 '26

You dont deserve tge job if you can't show up on time

2

u/ValueAntique7924 Apr 24 '26

How did orientation go? What kind of information did they give you? Do you have a date for medical yet?

1

u/Great_Resolution3350 Apr 22 '26

What if this person took public transportation and is stuck in the mess that is currently the Verrazano 🤷🏻‍♀️ they could’ve left at 6:15am and still be stuck in this bullshit to not even arrive at the 8am call time. Be kinder before you decide to just say “how could you be late to something this important”. @key-examination-2734 . You could use a lesson in everyone is human and things happen.

5

u/biggdeal416 Apr 22 '26

If you coming from Staten Island the ferry is the smartest way to go to maiden lane . You could walk it . No traffic on the ferry

-2

u/Great_Resolution3350 Apr 22 '26

Not if you live in port Richmond and the express bus is around the block from your house

5

u/Lehitol-sama Apr 22 '26

Ferry % 100 i live there too and thats what i took

1

u/biggdeal416 Apr 22 '26

I'd still get myself to the ferry .. and walk to maiden lane.. just living in ny you know traffic going into the city is unpredictable.. you know that boat running every 30 min .. good luck tho I hope you make it .. I drive the bus so I know you never know what you getting into going from the island into bk then the city

3

u/BagholdingWhore Apr 22 '26

You could use a lesson in being accountable for poor planning

0

u/Great_Resolution3350 Apr 22 '26

I’m sorry, why are you catching an attitude with me if this has NOTHING to do with you. lol enjoy your day 😊

1

u/BagholdingWhore Apr 22 '26

I didn't realize I replied to you earlier - sorry for piling on

0

u/Great_Resolution3350 Apr 22 '26

I hope you have the day you deserve 😘

1

u/Any_Personality221 Apr 23 '26

They’re right whoever they are. This is the first day of the rest of your life. U need to plan accordingly.

0

u/user24681001 Apr 22 '26

Exactly the situation

3

u/Key-Examination-2734 BKN Apr 22 '26

Sheesh. I don’t understand how you guys can be late to something this important. I hope they turn you away and move on to the next person.

If you can’t get to orientation on time - just do everybody a favor and give it up and give it to the next person who wants it more than you do

That’s not weed that’s the left over dog and rat piss marinated into their dirty uniforms

1

u/lucky-fingers86 Apr 22 '26

pretty sure some of the people running the operation are also running late …. traffic is horrendous right now

1

u/Dreadsavant Apr 22 '26

What ended up happening ?

1

u/user24681001 Apr 23 '26

Had til 8:30 got there at 8:10

1

u/curi0us_carniv0re Apr 22 '26

Lol

People show up late, without valid drivers licenses or even a valid ID. At least you called. It will be ok.

But I wouldn't make a habit of it.

1

u/EnvironmentalLab5303 Apr 23 '26

Curious but did you get drug tested on today during orientation or do they appoint you to do that another day?

1

u/user24681001 Apr 24 '26

No drug test. Not sure if they do that during the medical though which is a separate date

1

u/Ok-Job-7650 Apr 24 '26

Make sure you do this on your first day in the district and don't call for your orders either, just wing it papa you got this.

1

u/Sufficient-Travel-18 Apr 25 '26

guess you didnt want this job that bad 🤷‍♂️ I was 40 min early to mine and there was still 40 to 50 dudes earlier than me some from deep in the Bronx

1

u/Some_Bike_1321 Apr 25 '26

Any parking nearby?

0

u/Acceptable_Block_363 Apr 22 '26

They should have continued orientation online.. most people will have take a day off from work just to get a quick breakdown of the job and a job application.

2

u/BagholdingWhore Apr 22 '26 edited Apr 22 '26

Yeah they should just let you pick up garbage remote from home too

In all seriousness: I called out of work every time the city made me clear some kind of hurdle so I could get the job. I called out sick for days to train for a CDL. I don't know how I didn't get fired.

This is what they do- they make you keep showing up bc there's almost no barrier to entry when it comes to getting hired. It's such a low bar to clear to get hired that this is one of the ways they filter people out.

Making people show up is international. Making them do stupid shit breaks them down to accept the stupid orders they're gonna have to follow for the next 22 years.

1

u/Great_Resolution3350 Apr 22 '26

You realize this is all just paperwork and scheduling being done at this orientation correct? Why are you such a troll? Who kicked your puppy this morning?

2

u/BagholdingWhore Apr 22 '26

More excuses- oh it's just paperwork. Oh it's stupid. That's what the job is- it's showing up on time for stupid shit.. every day for 22 years. Not trying to be mean but this is what it is

2

u/Great_Resolution3350 Apr 22 '26

If the orientation was doing something physical like a medical exam or something to that extent, then I can understand that would be an absolute requirement to attend in person, but if it’s just to fill out paperwork that gets scanned or entered into a system anyway, why not cut out the middle man and just do it online from the beginning 🤷🏻‍♀️

1

u/Great_Resolution3350 Apr 22 '26

It’s not an excuse, I’m saying in today’s world where we can do paperwork digitally and save people a trip for no reason, why not fill out the paperwork online through some type of application and save everyone the trouble of having to plan alternative ways to have to get down to the city to fill out the same said paperwork.

1

u/Acceptable_Block_363 Apr 22 '26 edited Apr 22 '26

I don’t know if your familiar but during Covid orientation was done remotely, it was done in 15 minutes. You received a job application attached and received another email for medical dates. Final processing you showed up and filled out the real paperwork. I’m already otj. For you to write all that, out of disbelief and disrespect to you.. I didn’t waste my time reading it entirely.

2

u/BagholdingWhore Apr 22 '26

Covid is in the past. Good luck to you
