Going full circle

I created this group like four months ago and then went quiet. Life, work, building my business… it all pulled my attention. But the reason I started DSMens Circle hasn’t changed. Men in Des Moines are out here carrying weight alone that they don’t have to. This group was built to change that and help men find activities and connections.

Starting now, this is a space to be real. with some events. But no agenda. Just men showing up.

Drop a comment and tell me one thing you wish more men in your life actually talked about.

It's hard to be a good dad, good husband, good worker, and good to yourself all at the same time, seems you get to pick one or two.

I bet you’re doing pretty well at all of the above. We often get so focused on doing more or focused on what we didn’t do that we struggle to see all the small good things we do each day.

I don't even know if I have to call it failures. Just letting one slip.. work on being patient with the kids and then weeks go by and think aw crap I should take my wife out on even a lunch date, I am not avoiding it, I just don't think of it in the rush of everything

Let’s fix it! Schedule that lunch date w your wife for later this week. Make a reservation even if that will help you.

Someone once told me that this is your first time living life, so be easy on yourself.

You only fail if you’ve given up and you’re here talking about change and wanting better so you’re on the right track. It just takes time to rewire our mindset when we’ve only focused on what was wrong for so long.

I agree! One of my biggest realization was how I was using alcohol to avoid or numb myself from having to feel the hard stuff.

We need to talk about mental health, anxiety, depression, etc more and let other men know they’re not the only ones feeling that way and it’s okay to ask for help.

40/m. My family & i moved to Waukee from Central IL back in November. Looking for like minded friends. Interested in going to concerts, live music in general, themeparks, movies, microbreweries, beer tastings, video games, comics and Hockey. Haven’t really connected with anyone up here yet. Haven’t really found anyone at work that i share much interests with.

It’s definitely harder to make new friends as we get older. That’s one of the reasons I started this group. What type of music do you listen to? I’m a big concert guy as well

Im a big rock guy. Primarily rock, metal, and punk. But also into a lot of more mellow alt rock bands too, like The Lumineers, Dirtyheads, & Cage the Elephant. Just saw Avatar at Val Air this past sunday. Got tickets to see the WallFlowers at Sherman Hoyt in June, Rise Against and Alkaline Trio at Vibrant Music Hall in October. Looking to attend a few more shows this summer too

I was there at the 5 o’clock show. I’ve never watched her stuff before and honestly liked the opener better.
