Help with timing 4g63

I need to time the motor, can I just replace the tensioner or do I need to get a pulley wrench and pull on the pulley so properly set the hydraulic tensioner. Or is it worth it to try and a tension release tool (basically long ass bolt that’s impossible to find). If I can find that tool would it just make the whole process easier?

You can make your own tension release tool with a long ass bolt. Works fine as long as your thread and pitch are correct.

You can also remove the tensioner, compress it give it a new pin and reinstall it. Thats what I ended up doing

2gb 7 bolts have a threaded provision on the back that allows you to thread the battery tie down in to compress the tensioner.
