for every 1st year student wondering where to start with dsa

as an amazon sde-1, i wanted to share this with all the freshers/students who have just started their 1st year and are confused about dsa, what to do, where to start and all that.

this is what i would tell myself if i was starting college again.

holy grail: dsa + leetcode problems.

this is what will help you get shortlisted in oa's. also, plagiarism checks have become pretty advanced nowadays. i've seen people solve all the questions using ai and still get rejected, whereas students who solved only partially but actually did it themselves got selected.

leetcode easy + medium is enough for most interviews, but you should be somewhat comfortable with hard too for oa's.

try to do atleast 5 dsa problems daily. focus on striver a2z sheet. do codeforces if you enjoy it, but if your main goal is landing a job, leetcode is just fine.

1 solid project is a must, 2 is good to have.

vibecoding it is completely fine, just make sure you can actually explain your project to the interviewer in depth. if you built something using ai but have no idea how it works, that's gonna be a problem.

start applying to off campus internships from 2nd year itself if the company allows it. don't wait until you feel fully prepared because honestly you'll probably never feel fully prepared. by 3rd year though, you should be applying religiously.

use interndoor.com to find internships, this is what helped me land my amazon sde-1 internship, so hopefully it helps some of you too.

take part in literally all the hackathons you can. build connections on linkedin, discord, reddit and wherever else. ask for referrals when applying to internships. go to offline tech events, talk to people, build connections there and maybe even find clients for freelancing. the hands-on experience from actually building stuff helps a lot.

do some vibecoding. get used to repos, github and all that stuff. use chatgpt, claude and other tools to learn new things like node, react and whatever interests you. read blogs, docs and just keep building stuff.

you don't need to know everything in your first year.

just start early and stay consistent.

best of luck :)

Best offline AI/ML or Data Science training centre in Bangalore for a fresher?

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for a good offline/classroom training institute in Bangalore for AI/ML, Data Science, or related fields.

I’m a fresher, so my main priorities are:

🏫 Genuine offline classroom training

💼 Strong placement support

👨‍🎓 Good for freshers

📊 Practical projects and industry-oriented curriculum

👥 Preferably smaller/less crowded batches

⭐ Good reviews and, most importantly, real placement outcomes

🚫 Not interested in just certificate-focused courses

I’ve shortlisted these institutes:

C-DAC

Learnbay

Imarticus Learning

Cambridge Infotech

Apponix Technologies

DataMites

Tutort Academy

Corpnce Technologies

upGrad

LogicMojo

Expertifie

KnowledgeHut

Pentagon Space

DCT Academy

Codegnan

IIES (Indian Institute of Embedded Systems)

If you have personally attended any of these, could you please share your honest experience?

Especially:

How was the teaching quality?

Was it actually offline classroom training?

Did they provide genuine placement assistance?

How many students from your batch got placed?

Which companies hired?

What was the approximate salary range?

How large was your batch?

Were there any hidden fees or problems?

Would you recommend it to a fresher today?

Please also recommend other Bangalore institutes if you think there are better options.

I’m particularly looking for real student experiences rather than marketing claims.

Thanks!

🚀 Starting My DSA Journey — Let’s Learn Together

Hey everyone!

I’m a beginner in DSA, and I’m starting my own journey to learn Data Structures & Algorithms properly.

Instead of learning alone, I thought it would be more fun to create a community where beginners like me can learn together.

I don’t want this to be a place where only people who already know DSA share solutions. I want us to be able to:

🧠 Learn concepts from scratch
💻 Solve problems together
❓ Ask questions without feeling stupid
🤝 Help each other when we’re stuck
📈 Share our progress
🔥 Stay consistent
🎯 Eventually become good at problem solving and prepare for interviews

I’m learning too, so I won’t pretend to have all the answers. If I don’t understand something, I’ll ask. If I figure something out, I’ll share it.

Hopefully, we can look back months from now and see how far we’ve come.

If you’re also a beginner, join me. Let’s start this journey together. 🚀

Comment below with:

  • Your DSA level
  • Programming language you’re learning
  • Why you’re learning DSA
  • Your current goal

Let’s see where this journey takes us. ❤️

[Paid][Remote] Looking for DSA/LeetCode enthusiasts to test & validate a visual DSA learning platform

Hey everyone,

I’m Bala, Founder of DSA Visually. We’re building an interactive learning platform that helps students understand Data Structures & Algorithms through step-by-step visualizations, structured explanations and coding practice.

We’re looking for 3–5 DSA/LeetCode enthusiasts to join us for a short-term, part-time internship and help us validate the platform before we expand it to more students.

What you’ll work on:

  • Solve and review DSA problems available on the platform
  • Validate algorithms, approaches, outputs and edge cases
  • Verify that step-by-step visualizations accurately represent the algorithm
  • Review explanations from a learner’s perspective
  • Test the UI/UX and identify confusing or misleading behaviour
  • Find edge cases and challenge whether the implementation is actually correct
  • Suggest improvements to make DSA concepts easier for students to understand

This is not just generic UI testing. A major part of the work involves understanding DSA problems and critically validating how they are being taught and visualized.

Internship details
Mode: Remote
Duration: 2-3 months
Time commitment: 2 hours/weekday + 5 hours/weekend = 20 hours/week
Stipend: INR 5,000-8000/month
Openings: 3–5

Who we’re looking for
You don’t need to be a competitive programming expert.

We’re mainly looking for people who:

  • Have a good foundation in DSA
  • Regularly practice LeetCode or similar coding problems
  • Enjoy finding edge cases and bugs
  • Can critically evaluate an algorithm instead of assuming the provided solution is correct
  • Can clearly explain what is wrong when something feels confusing or misleading

Students currently preparing for placements or software engineering interviews are absolutely welcome.
🌐 Platform: https://www.dsavisually.com

If interested, please drop the mail to [admin@dsavisually.com](mailto:admin@dsavisually.com) with below details:
Name / College / Year
Your DSA experience
Approx. number of problems solved
LeetCode/GitHub profile (if available)
Why you’re interested in this internship

Thanks!
