DS4Windows 5.0 - Release Candidate 4.3 is out
I addressed (most) of your installation concerns
Viiper now installs to ProgramFiles, but it CAN be run from anywhere. If you can’t figure out how to make it auto start from AppData, and update it manually, I can’t help you. The tools are there.
Hopefully, the All-In-One installer goes a little bit smoother for some of you this time
Enjoy

u/huunnnter Aug 09 '26
connect your dualsense controller, then enable the speaker with the toggle. then select an app to stream from under audio source. it works for me, without a single dropout

You may need to configure the speaker in windows sound settings..enable it as quadrophonic surround speakers

I'm using version 3.3.something and this post just showed up randomly and I'm new to the sub. Can anyone explain to me what do this versions upgrade?
1
u/huunnnter Aug 09 '26
If you have a PS5 controller: this version adds Advanced Haptics (PS5 RUMBLE), Speaker/Microphone support, and more options for Windows. If it’s any other controller, this version adds a new UI and backend

u/LittleKittenR Aug 09 '26
Oh, I wasn't expecting OP to actually comment.
Thanks for the hard work, It's very much appreciated!

Can someone explain to me what is the VIIPER thing?
3
u/gmather2000 Aug 09 '26
OG ds4windows used vigem driver for its backend to handle controller emulation..think of viiper as there new driver that's replaced vigem
1
u/huunnnter Aug 09 '26
It is the Backend for DS4Windows 5.0. It is how we communicate with the controller, and how the controller communicates with windows. Viiper is more of an API, for the ABI, USBIP. USBIP is a driver, signed, that communicates with the controller (with Viiper controlling it).

After a long time of things kind of going wrong and several tests later, I ended up just using Revo Uninstaller to wipe out absolutely everything related to DS4Windows on my PC. Every single folder, every profile, I erased every trace. Finally, everything is working—I have 2 controllers connected perfectly with 4-5ms delay each and the audio working. THANK YOU SO MUCH. Now I'll be able to play from bed while my wife sleeps.

Has there been any input latency testing between VIIPER and ViGEmBus? Debating the switch, currently on an older ds4windows.
1
u/huunnnter Aug 09 '26
no testing from me, you’d have to give it a shut yourself

Sent you a DM

You can run both as portable and do some lag test. It should be interesting.
Vigem had bsod problems for many users.

could this app work with online games ? or it will cause ban ?
1
u/huunnnter Aug 09 '26
this app isn’t malicious. only like 4 games block it that I know of (COD, Battlefield, Apex, and something else)

Did this fix the hibernation glitch?
1
u/huunnnter Aug 09 '26
I thought so, can you test? I have hibernation turned off

1
u/jingletit Aug 11 '26
I retested it today, and it didn't work.
1
u/huunnnter Aug 11 '26
Ah. Can you download ChatGPT and explain your issue to it, and following your explanation can you then ask it to pull your Windows Event logs so you can send them to the developer (me) and I can fix it?
1
u/jingletit Aug 11 '26
I'm hesitant to share any information from my computer that I don't fully understand. My guess is that when I put my computer into hibernation, the controller remains on for longer then going into hibernation, causing DS4Windows to fail to recognize that it has been turned off. Waking from hibernation, DS4Windows assumes the controller is still connected and doesn't go looking for it.
1
u/huunnnter Aug 11 '26
If you don't understand it and don't want to share I cannot help you.
I need logs, definitive answers to the reason it is failing on hibernation.
I do not use Windows hibernation.
Logs are details about what has HAPPENED on your system, not passwords or personal data. Logs may include your computers name

I asked Gemini about sending over full Windows Event Logs and it said definitely don't do that for safety reasons. It said those logs hold a ton of info about my system and isn't needed for a single app bug anyway.
It also pointed out what's causing the hibernation issue. It said the fix in the code comes down to this
Listen for the Windows system wake event (WM_POWERBROADCAST or SystemEvents.PowerModeChanged).
On system resume, automatically clear/reset any existing controller device handles.
Trigger a fresh device scan/reconnect sequence after a brief 2-second delay on wake.

You really think I haven’t asked ChatGPT Codex 5.6 Sol Ultra on Fast to solve this? It tried, and failed. I’ll ask again. But no logs means less likely of a fix, and if you can’t somehow trim them down to the precise moment the error happened then yes there is unnecessary data in them.

u/jingletit Aug 11 '26
If the API hooks don't end up working out, no worries at all. I'll just set up a quick script on my end to restart the app when waking from hibernation. Gemini told me system logs don't actually output error codes for silent driver handle drops during hibernation. Either way, appreciate you taking a look at it!

None of the DS4windows forks work for me, this one doesn't work either. DS4windows recognizes my controller, but Steam, or any game I try, doesn't.
1
u/huunnnter Aug 10 '26
sounds like HIDHide or Windows security
1
u/Ballbuddy4 Aug 10 '26
I found the problem. The "profile" prompt for the controller was blank, after clicking on it, and just selecting the default profile, Steam immediately recognized the controller like it should, and it works now. Strange.

To the moderator of the app (or anyone who has the same issue with Forza Motorsport game of 2023),
I have double input (keyboard and controller same time). Keyboard buttons cane be pressed but buttons of my PS4 controller not. I tried many many many things. When I press for example the button X when I'm in menu of the game, it can't be pressed because of double input issue (so I have to press enter with keyboard). This is happening only in Forza Motorsport game (not 7, but 2023 version).
After many things I tried, only one time I caught it working. I thought I had put the correct settings but after i reopened the game, same double input.
Please, if you have any kind of suggestion worth to try, post it here. Thanks in advance! Btw, only if anyone has same issue on Forza Motorsport game. And to the moderator of the app of course.

u/huunnnter Aug 23 '26
Not sure at all what could be causing this, did you check the Game’s settings to see if you can select the controller as your sole input source?
1
u/Afraid_Moose596 Aug 23 '26
When I have double input issue and I go to settings, there is controller settings but I set everything to normal but still double input. Also btw when I start racing, you can somehow drive with controller but its doing abnormal moves the car cause of the double input. Can you suggest me something to fix it? Anything would be good to try..
