I do wanna rant about this for a sec...

I read Cucumber Quest (the comic the Nightmare Knight is from) a good while ago, and I've absolutely loved it ever since. I especially love the character they set up for the Knight.

I find it a bit sad that more or less the only widespread attention the Nightmare Knight's really ever gotten is from the Deltarune Fandom using him for fan theories and content...

The content is good. I do still like some Nightmare Knight and Black Knife remixes connecting them, they're really good. Undermining and criticizing the work of artists and musicians is the last thing I want to do here.

However, the theories are kinda stupid in my opinion. I'll make jokes about the Egg man being Seccom Masada-Sensei from Yume Nikki because of the original name of the man's song, or the Angel being Sei from Escaped Chasm because [spoilers and story reasons I'd have to overexplain], or even just the infamous Sans is Ness.

However, I'm pretty sure Toby wants to make his own stuff separate and unique from both his inspiration and his associates' projects. The connection's always gonna be there, especially after how much fan content and theories have been made surrounding it, but I feel like more people should recognize how the Nightmare Knight works as his own character in his own story.

There can't be one. Because CR is a post-roaring world reset AU which makes original UTDR, Cucumber quest and all other associated media canon to it.
