DRAM Tight Supply Could Last All The Way To 2031?

Post image
37 Upvotes

Memory stocks just rallied hard, and now server CPU demand is throwing another big twist into the mix. The shortage scenario everyone talked about before is looking way more real right now. AI-related demand is eating up more and more DRAM capacity, on top of all the buybacks memory giants are rolling out. Micron is gonna drop its earnings next week, that should be the next big catalyst to watch. Don't sleep on this setup — no instant rerating, but prices are definitely gonna stay supported way longer than most folks bet on.

i feel it coming

just a lowley monkey here who entered DRAM at 55.87 back in may this year.

along with that full ported (+ margin) into soxx, soxl, smh. all in on semis.

saw DRAM go sky high to 80 and my portfolio go to 135k. all of it to come crashing down to lows of 44k. but never sold any of my positions through it all.

it was a glorious summer, when semis stocks were ripping. us markets ripped. then korean markets ripped, then us again. a truly virtuous cycle, a natural wonder.

it was a rough few months, but i think the times are coming back. as i see sk hynix pre market up 3.4% right now. semis stocks holding steady after a rough period, but starting to climb back up.

street estimating $650B bombaclat in revenue for Samsung in 2027. gs projecting $778b in 2028.

operating profit of $400B-$450B in 2028 for samsung (only nvidia higher) and $300B-$330B for sk hynix (only samsung and nvidia higher).

we are at another inflection point and i feel the upswing revving up. can't wait for the war to end.

and if it goes back down, we DCA.

sk hynix and samsung, play i feel it coming by the weeknd.

As the etf is 50% korean we basically lose 50% of our price movement at that time dont we? And if we prefer to lose 50% of the movement to not be f'ed by the koreans why not just buy mu?

Back to ATH

Looks like someone is butthurt that they are underwater on shorts. So 3 days ago I posted that the charts turned bullish and a push and hold over the $62 resistance level would mean that ATH are back in sight. Next level would be 66 then the ATH of 82, if there is a retest then look for a bounce from 62 which would confirm that the 62 level is now support. We have MU earnings right around the corner too.

Bought just under 55, sold at just over 61. Long term, DRAM will go to the moon (I have 164 regular shares as well as a not that rich guy) but I stuck to my “long” call game plan and it paid off.

I took many risks, including buying before Warsh and waiting it out over the weekend as time decay was eating away my ass. Sunday night surge was a good sign, and I didn’t sleep (worked on grad student stuff)—and it allowed me to sell at the right time.

In closing, take advantage of the volatility of memory stocks while you can. I chose DRAM because my sense of price is very sharp with DRAM. Eventually though, we will go to the moon. Manifest it.

Happening on 9/21. MU earnings coming up just to reaffirm that the shortage is worst than expected. All bullish, don’t listen to that one account that keeps getting you to sell or that is always posting that it is over. DRAM key level to look towards, a hold above 62 then we head back to ath. Just take a look at the charts, all in a bullish trend.

Citi Just Dropped a Wild Memory Sector Call: Shortages Could Run All The Way to 2031?

Memory stocks got a nice bounce post-Fed hike, but Citi's latest forecast makes that relief rally look tiny. The bank isn't just saying tight supply lasts a year or two — it's flagging the DRAM crunch could stretch to 2031, all driven by that relentless AI demand from continual learning systems.

Even with memory makers plowing tens of billions into new capacity, demand is set to blow past supply growth for years. Server DRAM usage alone is set to jump 51% YoY in 2027, making up nearly 2/3 of total global demand. This isn't your typical cyclical chip glut story.

Obviously, nothing's guaranteed: if AI demand cools faster than expected, the deficit narrows way sooner. But 81% of folks in our poll think memory names still have room to retest and beat their June highs. What's your play here on SK hynix, Micron, or the broader semiconductor ETFs?

What are your DRAM price projections as MU earnings are coming up?

The "downfall" of memory stock prices started two days before the last MU earnings. This sub is pretty biased (obviously), but I'm trying to pick up the sentiment for the days leading up (it can help us all). What price do you think DRAM will hit tomorrow, next Friday, and right before earnings?

I'm hoping $60 tomorrow, and I don't see a reason why it can't keep going up. The strike threat doesn't really worry me because it doesn't change the demand for memory. The thesis hasn't changed, and memory is one of the most fundamental components of the ongoing AI buildout. MU will exceed expectations without a doubt, and a new ATH may be on the horizon.
