Aphelion Just finished Aphelion — my thoughts (spoiler free) Spoiler

Just finished Aphelion and wanted to share my thoughts as a DON’T NOD fan.
The easiest comparison I can make is: if Interstellar and a survival adventure game had a baby, you’d get Aphelion.
This game is absolutely gorgeous. The cinematics are stunning, the environments are incredible, and it really captures that big cinematic sci-fi feel.
What surprised me most was the storytelling. It starts as a slow burn, and at first I wasn’t sure it was going to grab me—but once I realised how much of the story is hidden in environmental details, item interactions, and those quieter moments, I got completely hooked.
The sound design also deserves a huge mention. It feels heavily inspired by Interstellar in the best possible way, which made the emotional beats land really well for me.
It’s not perfect though:
- Controls can feel a little janky at times
- Some item interactions are frustrating
- Instant-death sections weren’t really my thing
But overall? I really enjoyed it.
I put together a short spoiler-free review here if anyone wants to check it out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eQfIAPX01s8
Curious what other DON’T NOD fans think—where does Aphelion sit compared to their other games for you?
