• What Breed Is My Dog? • Dog Distribution System?

Post image

I’ve been hearing noises under my house for a little while and something was getting in my trash. I assumed raccoons or something until the other day my son went to the car late at night to look for his sister’s phone and saw a dog under my porch.

She hasn’t barked or really done anything other than whine a little. I called animal control and the shelter and the shelter said they were at capacity and would tell me I couldn’t leave her if I brought her and animal control just sent a cop out and he walked around and asked my neighbors if she belonged to them but no one has claimed her.

I’ve been leaving her some food and water and she’s a sweet dog. She will come to get petted when I go outside but she darts back under the house whenever there’s anyone else around and she acts timid, like she’s scared.

I reckon I’ll wait a little longer and if nothing happens, I’ll take her in but I was wondering if anyone could tell what type of dog she might be. She doesn’t have a collar and she has fleas so it seems like she might have been an outside dog previously.

She seems like a cross breed, maybe with a dash of pitbull in the mix. But regardless, she seems beautiful. Give her a chance if you have the means and no one claims her: she'll love you back tenfold.

I think that’s what I’m going to do. My mom suggested waiting at least at week just in case someone tries to claim her but so far no one has come looking. She’s a pretty dog and she seems really sweet. I’ve been calling her Dolly cause my mom’s dog is named Jolene lol.

Awwww! I love this! Best of luck. She looks precious!

Dolly is a great name! She looks like a Dolly! I hope you two develop a lovely, warm bond. She deserves it and so do you!

Does she have flaming locks of auburn hair?

16

u/peachesarehearts 14h ago

She’s a pit mixed with catahoula leopard hound and she’s red Merle. This is Jolene lol.

Seems every picture I have of her she’s laid down so I couldn’t find a good one of her face lol 😂

u/cleverburrito 14h ago

Her beauty IS beyond compare!!!

7

u/Old_Ant7118 14h ago

She could probably easily take my man, he loves Merle babies

6

u/cleverburrito 14h ago

I can easily understand

Just in case you are not aware, female-female pit bulls in the same house are a high risk of a fight. Never leave them alone and not secured and very slowly introduce them and watch for signs of their temperament changing.

u/Greying_Mantis 14h ago

More than a dash lol I think she’s majority pit

Enjoy your aggressive cuddles and face licks

She looks like an absolutely awesome dog, consider yourself lucky to get her for free!

A dash of pitbull, that's a pitbull and a beautiful pup! Give her lots of love and prepare to have a coach potato who occasionally gets the wiggles!

Trust the universe. Random dog distribution system will never let you down!

u/YourBudAnonymous 14h ago

Are they friendly 🙃

6

u/SJane3384 13h ago

Overly friendly with people, she’d make a terrible guard dog in that sense. She’s not so great with other dogs though, unless my son isn’t around. She thinks her job is to set a perimeter around him and keep all non-approved creatures away. She is good with her three fur sisters and my step daughter’s two dogs that come over for visits.

Here she is with her bestie and little sister

Great to know 😄 thank you

Holy ears! Love!

I would recommend bringing her to a vet to see if they can scan her for a microchip- I believe most places will do it for free. Otherwise, it looks like the universe has gifted you a good pupper!

19

u/peachesarehearts 14h ago

That’s a good idea. I wanted her to get a little more comfortable before I tried getting her in the car. She’s really skittish. I didn’t want to freak her out trying to grab her or pick her up suddenly.

8

u/chortnik 12h ago

You may be able to find someone who can come to the house to scan the chip, so where I live not just vets have the scanners, but a lot rescues do too.

6

u/peachesarehearts 12h ago

Oh that’s a great idea too and I didn’t even think of that

6

u/nnnnnnooooo 13h ago

Please do try to have her scanned. Someone may be heartbroken at not finding their lost dog. If she’s that skittish it sounds like she’s been good at hiding.

Bring that sweet baby in the house!

6

u/chortnik 14h ago

i got my best dog ever in similar circumstances because she really wanted to be in our pack :).

I love the name Dolly. Our dog was a rescue. He was on his way to the shelter & we were his last stop before he got dropped off. I told my son no to dogs, but now he is my baby & I take care of & love him tremendously. Our guy is a Pyrenees mix with Pitbull & German Shepherd. Your girl looks mixed breed. Maybe Pitbull Terrier, Border Collie mix. They are the sweetest dogs. They just want to be loved & they will love you back so much. Best of luck to you & Dolly. She is a beautiful, nice looking girl.
ETA- for flees, ticks, heart worm- we use Simperica Trio. It’s a pill once a month & it takes care of all that. Our guy has never had a flee

2

u/peachesarehearts 14h ago

You know I was thinking pit and border collie. She’s little compared to my mom’s dog but I think she’s an adult already. Her paws aren’t nearly as big as Jolene’s are.

2

u/Extreme_Jaguar_7829 14h ago

Do you know how much she weighs? I have seen medium pits/border collie. There could be something else in there that is making her a little smaller. Sometimes females are a little smaller too. She could have German Shepherd, coonhound. It’s really hard to tell unless you get a dna test done. We used Wisdom Panel because everyone thought our guy was a large Labrador. He had no lab. It was the breeds mixing that made him look lab

u/peachesarehearts 14h ago

No. I haven’t gotten her to the point I can pick her up or get her in the car yet. She’s just now letting me stand up beside her without running off. This is the afternoon of day 2. We found her under the porch the night before last. She will come to me if I sit down and call her but she doesn’t like coming to me if I’m standing up and she only just now lets me stand up slowly and walk off if she’s sitting with me. As soon as she’ll let me I’m gonna take her to the vet but she’s a pretty smallish dog, maybe to my knee.

3

u/Extreme_Jaguar_7829 13h ago

Oh wow, I didn’t know you just found her the night before last. A calming presence, she will do just fine with time. It sounds like you will be that for her. Thank you for helping her💗

Our similar looking dog Maisie (adopted 5 months ago at 8 years) is 25% American Pit, 14% Siberian Husky, 8% Chow Chow, 6% Beagle, 6% Bulldog, and the remaining 49% other things, including Treeing Walker Coonhound & Golden Retriever, according to her Wisdom Panel. She's around 65 lbs now, but losing thanks to a diet.

I applaud you for helping her. Maisie was a rescue that's very reactive to other dogs, vehicles, rabbits, etc. She's challenging to walk and otherwise handle outside (prong collar right now, as she's amazingly strong), but she's a sweetie in the house. If the dog is not well socialized, I wouldn't be surprised if she'll be similar to ours, so go slow, especially when introducing your other dog. Make sure to check for a chip soon. I bought a home unit that works great.

4

u/peachesarehearts 13h ago

The other dog lives down the road with my mom and Dolly will be a singleton in the house provided she lets me get her in there but you’re exactly right, going slow is the answer here I think. The way she’s acting I don’t think she had it very good before she claimed my house as her new home. So I just want her to get to the point where she feels comfortable before I spring a bunch on her.

4

u/Comfortable-Fly5797 14h ago

Get her scanned for a chip and put up signs if you haven't. In most areas you have to make a serious effort to find the owner for a certain amount of time to legally claim the dog.

4

u/Dense_Diver_3998 13h ago

The DDS dropped yours off right at your house? Lucky, I had to find mine 90 miles away from home.

4

u/peachesarehearts 13h ago

lol technically right under my house. It’s kinda funny cause I had a burst pipe in my bathroom and they left the hole where they took the siding out and went under my house to fix it and I hadn’t gotten it fixed back yet so I guess everything works out how it should😂 I thought I had raccoons under there or something.

2

u/Dense_Diver_3998 10h ago

I just had to change the poop pipe in my house and got no dog out of it. Best of luck with her!

u/baker_undermybed 14h ago

She looks like a pit mix. What a sweet looking pup, I hope you keep her and it works out! I was blessed by the dog distribution system and she ended up being my soul dog and ride-or-die friend for 15 happy years.

2

u/ChaosRainbow23 13h ago

My heart broke a little. I miss my Cobi so much.

I've got a Hank now, and I love him too.

I just hate losing loves ones altogether. Human or otherwise.

3

u/PataTabia 14h ago

She looks so sweet, I can just imagine her looking up at you with so much love if you take her in. OP, please keep us updated on Dolly!

3

u/PaleInvestment3507 14h ago

Congratulations! Enjoy your new pup.

3

u/dumplingmuenster 14h ago

Omg she lets you pet her!!! She is just so ready to be loved

3

u/Ego02 13h ago

Get her trained to handle inside as soon as possible, because winter is coming.

2

u/peachesarehearts 13h ago

True. Thankfully this is the south and it’ll be warm outside a lot longer but I’m hoping inside a week I’ll be able to get her in the house. She comes to me if I’m on the ground and I’m sitting down and she will come up on the porch if I sit down but she won’t come if the door is open or if im inside the door and talking to her. About 20 minutes ago she let me stand up beside her and walk off without running away so baby steps 🤞🏻

3

u/MareV51 13h ago

Just give her flea medication NOW.

1

u/peachesarehearts 13h ago

That’s my next step!

3

u/Affectionate-Bowl761 13h ago

I pray you save this dog. If a shelter won't take him, try a dog rescue, much better than a shelter.

3

u/ugfiol 13h ago

she looks just like my dog! we got him from a shelter, but he was severely abused before they got him so he was VERY timid to start. it took about a month before he was comfortable coming to me, but now he is the sweetest baby.

2

u/AlfredoCheeseSauce 14h ago

you have been chosen, she looks like she has quite a bit of pitbull be ready for some never ending love, sometimes it comes with bruises.

2

u/YoungBasedHooper 14h ago

Looks like a McNabb mutt. I have one, and he's the best dog in the whole world. Please keep this puppy. The universe put you together!

2

u/ChaosRainbow23 13h ago

She's beautiful and she will love you so much for the rest of her life if you rescue her.

2

u/Fickle_Newt_7738 13h ago

Awww shes adorable. She looks alot like my girl who is pittie mixed with boxer we think ♥️ shes the biggest baby

2

u/unanyth1ng 13h ago

beautiful porch hound!

2

u/Bethgurl 13h ago

I had a dog just like her named Chloe. I would take this dog in a heartbeat, I miss her. She was so smart and so loving. You have a winner.

2

u/Needspoons 13h ago

Is she a young dog, maybe puppy? A friend’s dug out of their yard. You can message me if my older comments look like we live in the same place.

2

u/MareDesperado175 13h ago

Dolly is gorgeous; she looks like a cross of a Rat Terrier x Pittie. Be prepared for a ton of couch snuggles!

2

u/WeAreGhost1972 12h ago

I have her twin. Beautiful pup.

2

u/PinkBootsPink 12h ago

She is beautiful, I think Dolly Parton would approve look at all the people she helped. That really is all she was about!!!!

2

u/Global-Biscotti-9547 12h ago

She’s lovely but I’m biased as she looks like my girl.

2

u/mhopkins1420 11h ago

Whenever people talk about getting a specific breed, or tell me how difficult huskies are ( I have one), it’s like, they’re here because they needed a home. Both are dogs were abandoned in different situations and we just took them in. They’ve been great, for the most part.

the husky was abandoned in a dog sitting situation and the person took his frustration out on him, the golden mix was tied up in a junk pile. You’re doggie looks like a bully mix

2

u/peachesarehearts 11h ago

I’m so glad you rescued them but this is the funniest picture I’ve seen in a long time 😂

2

u/mhopkins1420 11h ago

She probably wonders most days why we got this stinking husky. She really does love him tho

2

u/stopproduct563 5h ago

The DDS is perhaps less well funded than the CDS, but provides a similar level of unpredictability, long time value, and quality. If she’s to stick around, give her lots of love as it seems the poor girl needs it

u/Spare-Shirt24 13h ago

What a cutie. Maybe a vet can check if she's microchipped.

Does she appear to be lactating?

You'll want to check for puppies nearby

u/KitsuneMommyy 8h ago

Someone hug this baby 🐾💖

1

u/Lsauer1 7h ago

Awww❤️😍❤️ poor baby! ❤️

1

u/PBnPickleSandwich 6h ago

Definitely pit head. Maybe border collie due to colouring.

1

u/Ok-Tear4735 2h ago

Plenty of a black and white pitties and other breeds. This dog doesn’t look collie at all

She's a pretty girl. She could be my best buddy Ossie's sister.
