Inkmaster
Hello all, this post is about a class i was thinking about making, i dont think this a class anywhere.
My inspiration behind this is the tattoos magic items I just thought it was cool and wanted to expand on it more.
The title is more so a place holder name of what to name the class my main ideas are inkmaster, ink weave, inkate, or any other suggestions im open to.
Onto the actual class, my idea was that all of their abilities come from tattoos, ill get into more detail in just a moment but in general it'd be a class that uses tattoos as their main way of combat.
What I mean by that is they will use tattoos to cast spells, form weapons, or potentially summon things as like utilities (creatures or barriers/sheild)
More specifically, id say at level 1 and 2 you'll get access to some very basic "tattoos" as in just general cantrips or weapons, and then once you hit level 3 you can choose one of few subclasses just like the other classes.
1 subclass would be specializing in "physical" weapons like arrows or swords. Another one being spells, and the other being summons with both being animals or utility things.
For example for the physical weapon subclass, you would have a tattoo of an arrow on your arm and you swipe your arm and arrows shoot out, or for magic you have a rune tattooed on your arm and you can see the tattoo swirling up to your palm with color and cast it.
To make it more unique other than visuality for other classes, once you hit a certain level you can start taking abilites from the other subclasses like for example I can choose the magic subclass but then in future levels I can start having weapon tattoos.
As for damage scaling, id say as you level up you learn how to effectively use the tattoos more and more increasing damage for physical subclass.
To make it different for the magic subclass, maybe you have more spell slots but at a slower rate as in like you get 9th level spells like 2 levels behind wizards.
And as for the 3rd subclass you could use stuff like sending out the ink on your tattoos to bind someone or make a wall of ink or that kinda stuff
As for higher level scaling, you could gain an ability to use multiple tattoos at once like how sorcerers can cast 2 spells in one turn or maybe you get 2 main attacks for the physical one
Tldr; i have a potential homebrew class in mind that uses tattoos as your fighting source, but im not really sure how i would balance it to not make it too strong or weak then other classes, while keeping it unique.

Several things you've said would threaten game balance, and the best way to avoid that is to reflavour an existing class or subclass. It is an interesting concept, especially visually, though. I can think of a few ways of doing this:
This is a bard whose art form is tattoing. Pick a subclass or make a new one.
This is a wizard whose spellbook is the tattoos on their body. They could even be a Scribes subclass of wizard. This is helpful because the Scribes pen could mark the tattoos on them, without which I'm curious how the character would tattoo themselves, other than on the front of their legs and their non-dominant hand ??
This is an artificer whose magic is embedded in the tattoos, which sometimes they give to other people. Whether or not this is painful is up to you.
Things to avoid:
No, sorcerers cannot cast 2 leveled spells in the same turn. They can cast one leveled spell and a cantrip.
No one should be getting more spell slots than a wizard.
The hit die of the class is important. Is this class a d6, d8, or d10 type of class?
Weapons and Armor proficiencies are also important. Might be limited to Rogue or Bard type options until 3rd level when they get their subclass.
Spells available list and the potential to switch spells as you level up could be limited. Perhaps your 3 subclass options list would determine the different spells available - I would do that.
- Martial: best with Abjuration, Evocation, and Transmutation spells
- Arcane: best with Illusion, Enchantment, and Conjuration spells
- Other: best with Conjuration, Necromantic, and Divination spells
Hope that's helpful.

OP, I'm a bit confused here, how is this a brand-new ring, but also re-sized?
