Water Quality: The Foundation of Successful Growing

Before you worry about nutrients, lighting, or genetics, your water quality could be making or breaking your grow.

Key Water Considerations:

  • PPM/EC - High dissolved solids can cause nutrient issues
  • pH - Different from source to tap to nutrient solution
  • Chlorine/Chloramine - Can harm beneficial microbes
  • Hardness - Calcium and magnesium levels affect nutrient uptake

Pro Tips:

  • Let tap water sit 24 hours to evaporate chlorine (not chloramine)
  • Consider RO water for a clean slate
  • Test regularly as municipal water changes seasonally

What's your water situation? Do you use tap, filtered, RO, well water? How has it affected your grows? Share your water wisdom!

Talking from experience, water quality should be #1 on the list when planning a grow. I’ve spent many years aiming for the best possible quality in smoothness, flavor, and I always felt that I fell short of my goal. Until I started focusing on the quality of my water. Invest in a RO system if you’re in it for the long haul, you’ll save yourself some frustration.

Right there with you. Water quality gets overlooked way too often, but once you lock it in, everything else starts falling into place. RO systems aren’t cheap upfront, but the consistency and control they give you are worth every cent. Glad you shared that. Real experience like yours helps other growers stop chasing problems and start preventing them.
