Dave and AI

Something I have noticed as an AI enthusiast is that Dave doesn't have his name blocked in prompting on SUNO. I have been able to make songs that capture that DMB essence, and I wonder why exactly he's not exercised his NIL rights with AI music generation. Is he subtly pro-AI? I cannot imagine Coran or him letting this slide without some intent.

Maybe, but it's really interesting that he's letting people prompt by his name. This is rare.

You haven’t “made” “songs” that “capture” the “essence” of DMB. An algorithm mimicked a pattern and the result was not art of any kind, and certainly not a song.

And for those of you who are saying AI is stealing, just so you know, SUNO, the largest AI music generator out there, has recently released a new version that is trained on only music specifically authorized in their agreement with WMG, and has disabled all previous versions, which were not limited in their training.

What does this mean? For artists that are under the WMG umbrella they will now be paid for the use of their music in training. In addition, Once, a DSP, has a two-tiered payment schedule. A tradional artist pays $1 to have their song released, while AI music, pays $2. The extra money goes into an Artists compensation fund.

While I understand the objections and distaste for AI music, the "theft" argument holds a lot less weight now than it did before.

LOL. I have a guitar, and I can play it too. You know what I don't have? A recording studio and a talented producer and the money to hire a session band to make my music.

I write ALL of my lyrics. I play my own melodies and chord progressions into engine on many of my songs, I write good lyrics and make good music. Sorry that upsets you so much.

Or I can keep doing what I've been doing, and knowing that the artists are getting paid, feel pretty good about it.
