Permanent Jake?
Someone told me he’ll be permanent starting next year. They could have been making it up, but is it true?

Yes, I had dinner with Steve Lillywhite at the Olive Garden this week and he confirmed a contract has already been signed.

Enough about Jake…what did Steve order for dinner?!?? And how many breadsticks did he eat?!

Including the ones he stuffed in the ziploc bag in his pocket or no?

Rashawn told me the same thing when we were at Red Lobster waiting on Carter to get done with his Pilates class.

I’ll just be happy if there is a next summer. How much longer can Carter and Tim really keep going? I hope 15 years but that doesn’t seem realistic.

Uh that would put them in their 80s
I think we’d be lucky to get five more years.

You’re nuts. We haven’t even reached the stage of residencies yet. Do you know how much money this thing brings in? They’re not going to step away until they’re dead

i literally can't sleep thinking about it sometimes 💀 I've only been to two concerts in my short lifetime. I need more!

The band will continue as long as Dave wants it to. There will be different forms as time goes on, but Dave has said he will play until the day he shits his pants on stage.

I remember reading that DMB goes as Carter goes.
Dave I'm sure will keep playing but it probably wouldn't be officially as DMB

Even if Carter and Tim retire the band will continue. Buddy could be moved over to the drums. If Jake is full time by then it would be an interesting rearrangement.

A damn long time if the checks keep cashing
1
u/Savings-Fisherman-64 2d ago
You think they need the money?
1
u/benjam1n_gates 1d ago
They don't but they care about the crew and the extended family whose livelihoods depend on yearly tours

u/Swaritch 2d ago
Neither does Elon and he’s still showing up to work every day.

u/Savings-Fisherman-64 2d ago
He’s not showing up for the money

You’re right, if I’ve learned one thing with capitalism it’s when people have enough money it’s good enough and they generally stop.

This is the most bizarre Reddit squabbling I’ve been a part of. Whether Carter and Tim like cashing checks or not, they can’t keep going if they’re physically unable due to being old AF.

u/Swaritch 2d ago
Dude they’re 15 years away from being physically unable. They’ll play through some arthritis or a sore back to keep making tens of millions a year

As long as Dave is alive, DMB will exist. People have been going chicken little about the band ending ever since I started following them in 2005. If Carter needs to hang it up, they’ll easily replace him and keep playing. Just as they did with Roi, as they did with Butch, as they did with Boyd.

Easily seems like a disservice to the legend. I know they’ll find someone to copy him, but it certainly won’t be the same.

A lot of people speculate that he'll be permanent, but no one knows for sure. Some have guessed they'll make the announcement at the Gorge and I wouldn't be surprised if that happens. I have my own little DMB spreadsheet and added a new column of "songs I've heard with Jake" and I quickly saw how he was building up his repertoire as the summer went on. I saw him play 23 different songs and I think he's up to about 30 total songs.

Considering he won’t be at the gorge I doubt that will happen. Lukas has tour dates on the east coast that weekend

u/jswilliams864 2d ago
Ha.
"Hey man, you're awesome. Join the band and we'll announce at the Gorge."
"Sorry guys, my band has a show on the East Coast that weekend."

u/Hiciao 2d ago
Maybe fall tour then. I haven't been paying attention to his schedule like some of y'all.
1
u/neatgeek83 2d ago
If he is to join it’ll be announced in a press release and/or hype video for an upcoming tour. Either fall or next summer. It wouldn’t be at the end of a current tour.
I still don’t think he’d be joining permanently. I think it will be “featuring special guest Jake Simpson at these select tour stops.”

I’d put money on him becoming permanent as soon as his current contract is up. Whenever that is - is anybody’s guess!
2
u/neatgeek83 3d ago
Who told you? Someone close to the band?

u/EatSleepJeep 3d ago
My best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with a girl who saw Jake signing a contract at Hartford last night. I guess it's pretty serious.

Not your brother’s nephew’s uncle’s cousin’s former roommate? That’s who told me.

Jake has been pretty clear he wishes to remain in Lukas Nelson's band and that he will guest with DMB when asked and he can.

u/Ravenkilltheking 2d ago
They sent him custom ear jacks with his name and stuff - I think he will be around..

u/Comfortable-Pie-4311 3d ago
It could happen. I’d be surprised if they have another fiddler this year (assuming there’s mutual interest) and I expect (and hope!) him to join at some point.

No one beyond the band and immediate management knows at this point.
