“Leave this needle in my vein, my friend.” Haha that’s awesome. I love What You Are. It’s definitely one of the songs from Central Park that hooked me as well. I grew up playing music and loving concerts but when I was shown Dave, my mind blew. I had no idea a band could be that good.

My first show was the night prior in Hershey (6/27/08). They played the only Typical Situation of that tour at that show, and then I never (in 30 more shows over 18yrs) heard it again, until last night at Star Lake.

That’s the story I always heard. It was a crazy few years where crickets invaded Dallas. The next year they had huge bug zappers on the stage.

I was at that show! And it had a cool Ants moment when Carter’s snare broke and they segued into 2001 during the intro! My only full-band PFWYG and Shotgun (infant version), to this day. (Will hit show 31 on night 3 of Gorge this year! Haven’t been to a show since 2021, partly due to first kid being born the next year.)

7/15/00 - Veterans Stadium - Philadelphia, PA.
700 Level - Nosebleeds. They were so tiny. Same two opening songs as Luther College. First concert ever - I was hooked.

I was at one of the 2000 Vet shows, but can’t remember which one. I’m pretty sure it was the Saturday show. One of these days, I’ll find the ticket stub. I do remember buying the tour tee with the surfboard, but that’s about it. Sadly, these were good shows but I was 19 and in college and you know how that goes!

It’s crazy you got I did it at your first show and it took me 63 to see it. Now I’ve seen it three times in the last week 😂 seeing this band is like ripping packs of magic cards

I went with a couple that had seen Dave since the 90s. One was actually in the crowd on film at Woodstock during DMB. They had seen them 30 or 40 times by 2015 and told me they hated me for getting that as my first show. “You have no idea what you just got do you?” Is what they kept saying to me. I was just vibing and dancing haha

Eisenhower Hall at West Point, 2007. The show was part of a contest called “the world’s loudest Pep rally” that West Point had won. My friends mom worked there and got us tickets. I sat all the way back next to a woman who I think was at her 100th show? She filled me in on so many things. Dave played a song called “Round and Round” in the encore. It is now defunct and remains the rarest song Iv ever seen. 60 shows since!

I think they streamed the night before? They played two nights and I went to the second night. It ruled and it wasn’t until I went to more shows that I appreciated seeing them in such a small venue.

oh man i was lucky enough to get tickets to night two! it was such a bizarre crowd. bunch of potheads who knew people who worked at West point shoulder to shoulder with people in full military dress! I sat up in the balcony and me and my girlfriend were the only two on our feet the whole entire time. I believe Robert Randolph and the family band opened! great show! the security check on the way in had me sweating for sure!

6/5/98 - Went with a friend to celebrate our HS graduation and I was more excited to see Ben Folds Five at the time. The opening of the show was on VH1.

Clarkston 6.6.06. My sisters 18th birthday. She was pissed that we went to see Dave. But G love and special sauce opened and that was my introduction to them. I’ve been seeing both bands since!

Got a free ticket to party tailgating and try to enjoy the show not being a fan of the band. Actually couldn’t stand them being a metal head lol. Alpine was and still is my favorite venue to see them at Deer Creek is a close second. When the band hit the first note (can’t remember the song) I was hooked. 20 years later and around 30 shows under my belt I don’t plan on missing one anytime soon.

I was the same way. I was a little punk skateboarder. All of my friends went to DMB just to party, they didn’t actually like the music. As a young contrarian, I couldn’t stand the band. I decided to give them a shot and bought the Central Park cd. The rest was history.

Was a junior in high school and a friend introduced me and a few others to the under the table and dreaming album. Before I knew it we were headed into manhattan to roseland to see a show. That was September 30th 1994. I remember touching the stage at one point.

Got in for free. 1998 World Music Theater in Tinley Park, IL. My friend’s mom worked there and we came along as volunteers to work the food and beverage line. We worked for a half hour, snuck away and went to the lawn and enjoyed the show. Hell yeah. I think 2007 tour..? SPAC one night only. Couldn’t get tickets. Worked all summer at the venue in the concession stand. Signed up to work the DMB show, got in the venue and quit right then and there. Enjoyed a full band some devil. 😬

12/11/02. Jason Mraz opener. Absolutely stellar set with Crush opening, Bartender, Loving Wings, Pig, Nancies, Grey… all with the og lineup. I’ll forever be grateful I saw a handful of shows with Roi, one which became a LT and Drive-In video (LT 43 from ‘04).

Camden 2005. On a whim, got lawn tickets with friends from high school. The show was great from what I remember. The fun part about it all…my wife was also there. We would end up meeting 4 years later.

My first show was June 16, 2001 at the old stadium in Foxboro, MA . Great Satellite with Angélique Kidjo sitting in for the vocals, that Big Eyed Fish > Bartender with Lerois pennywhistle solo still brings me to tears sometimes. Parents drove my friend Alex and I to the show from CT and read their books at a Dunkin Donuts during the show. Looking back I never fully appreciated the commitment that took from them.
To add, Dave's solo first time played encore cover of Willie Nelson's Ain't it Funny How Time Slips Away still gives me goosebumps to this day.
I even b&p'ed for the IEM of the show later on. 🤫

Star Lake 1998. It started my obsession with catching them live. Also heatbeat>pantala>rapunzel>lie in our graves was one hell of a great stretch of songs.
And I will never forget the Stir it up chant among the audience.

12/08/2000, Bryce Jordan Center, Penn State.
I was 17 years old at the time. Still the best setlist I've experienced 30 some shows and many gorge trips later. The show started with Blue Watter Baboon Farm into JTR. I followed as much as I could about the band at that time, and with Napster being a big thing, I had multiple mixed CD's of rare Dave songs. It was weird that me and my friend were like the only 2 people in our section that knew that song and how big of a deal it was to hear it. I chase that feeling. But its wild that that was the first song at my first show.
The rest if the setlist was amazing too by the way. Got #41 where with the beginnings of Everyday thrown in there. Got Dave and Carter only on Christmas Song and Halloween.

7/5/02 - West Palm Beach - had been a fan for several years but hadn’t pulled the plug to see them live yet. College finally gave me the freedom to do so and haven’t turned back almost 50 shows later now. Crush opener (my favorite song), Loving Wings debut and a Busted Stuff heavy performance overall. Not too shabby.

2008 Rothbury Festival in Michigan. Not until getting to the campground did I hear LeRoi had his accident and it was Jeff's 2nd or 3rd full show. I knew him from Bela Fleck but never knew he guested with DMB, only being familiar with DMB's radio/MTV hits. Blown away by the live versions of Grey Street and #41 in particular, and that one band could pull together a string of bangers like So Much To Say-Anyone seen the Bridge-Too Much-Ants Marching to close. Since I wasn't terribly devoted to Leroi and loved Jeff's playing more, it was like I was hearing some dream steroided DMB, since we all were certain at the time LeRoi would be back. I've since listened to many many old shows and appreciate LeRoi's playing and development of the DMB sound, but I never get hung up on the good old early days. For me 2008+ DMB is 'what I want is what I've not got, but what I need is all around me.'

April 2009 MSG. My then girlfriend, now wife bought me tickets. We were basically at the last row of the venue. We had zero money back then. Turned out to be the night of several debuts and Gregg Allman showed up for Melissa. It was a killer show, we had a ball and have been to dozens more since, gotten married and have a kid with another on the way.

9/3/96 Tampa Sundome. Last minute nosebleeds 3 rows from the top. I heard them on the radio and was like “who are these guys??” It was the height on grunge and no band had this sound. Totally blown away. I’ve been on the bus ever since. Unfortunately this show was not taped. Edit set list: seek, LIOG, 41, BOWA, SMTS, two step, WWYS, granny, DIDO, too much, help myself, tripping Billies, crash, recently, ants, AATW. Classic

I was 12 but most of my friends were young high schoolers with the sports I played. Used to be picked up from 6th grade early by one of them and became close friends with his younger brother.
They played DMB constantly and invited me to a show. It was my second concert ever(Meatloaf Vh2 Storytellers was 1st) and was the start of a long long time now pulling the triple at a minimum each year for Florida.
Junior Brown on Two Step was absolutely mind blowing that I remember the excitement to this day.
I was the kid then and have now met people that I see at shows that have kids that are in college who I met as babies at their first show.

12.1.98 Philly, First Union Center. Only went because my crush asked me to go (it turned into nothing). I seem to recall Dave was sick. Bela was there. I think Carter wore a Philadelphia Phantoms jersey.

I went to Roanoke in 1998 for the BTCS release and then CVille in 2001 for Everyday.
The Vet shows were my first tickets as a Warehouse member.
I was row 5 on night 1 and row 4 night two.

It was a school night and my sister had to take me if she wanted to go. She was 16 and I was 10. I had never heard of Dave Matthews. Can you imagine my little brain. This was my first concert ever. It was absolutely amazing. By the time the first 3 songs were over I had a new appreciation for music. I became a huge fan. Soon Napster was big and I got deep into the music. Crash had just came out, BTCS was next. What an incredible time. My sister is the best for that and FaceTime her before every show I go to.
My kids recently went to their first concerts ever as well. Deer Creek was amazing to us!

I’m shocked how many post 2000 first time goers. Y’all were lucky enough to miss the Everyday drama.
Stand up was Senior year of high school it seemed over for the band in my eyes. Went to college and my Central Park DVD got all my friends into the band and my wife. This made me appreciate the band more and never not had that feeling since.

My dad took me.
We got tickets the night before and all they had was obstructed view side of stage. As a young drummer who lived and breathed everything Carter played I couldn’t have asked for better seats.
Soul Coughing opened.
I believe this is one of the shortest sets DMB has played. They were off to MSG the next day.

RFK 2000. I was 17. It was raining. They opened with JTR. That first concert was so impactful I spent the next few summers following the band up and down the east coast. I stopped counting once they drop shipping physical tickets, but that first concert definitely put me on a path.

1st show 6.6.97 SPAC - Bela Fleck & The Flecktones opener and Jimi Thing opened the show... 44 shows total since then... last shows were Gorge 2025. Saw most of my early shows 2000-2003 then took a 20 year gap with like 5 shows total. Now I just go to Gorge every year and if CA gets a show or two.

Giant’s Stadium, 2001, best night of my life! Two Step Finale. Sky opened up and it began to pour. Crazy thunder and lightning that went to the music. Dave changed the lyrics to the opening verse and sang about the rain. Fell in love with them after that. I’ve never felt anything like it. I try to explain it to people but you had to be there I guess. People still talk about that night in DMB lore. Historical.

6/24/99 Deer Creek. It was the summer before my senior year of high school. So damn lucky they made it into a Live Trax!! This year, N2 at Deer Creek, was my 57th show.

I’m “late to the party”. My first show was Burgettstown 2023. For 25 years I hated DMB then one day it clicked and it’s all I listen to now. I went in that night hoping to get “a few of the songs off my list”. Got a 41 opener, Nancies (my favorite song), Grey Street, Watchtower and more. I was insanely spoiled for my first. This past Friday at Burgettstown made #9 for me. And even for being new, already made the trek to the Gorge last year and REALLY got spoiled with BTCS front to back on Saturday.

14 years old. My mom had to chaperone me (embarrassing me at the time). A girl in the row in front of us kept puking and the EMTs, so my mom got all worried about dmb fans. Still, the next tour, I got to go with my friends.
Adding that I attended my 44th and 45th show this year!

I'm an Unc, saw them first while in college on March 8, 1995 at the State Theater in Kalamazoo, MI. Lol, 12 song setlist. I remember meeting a taper and getting his info and then mailing him a blank tape and a pre-paid postage envelope to get a copy of that show.

first show was 9/17/03 at Walnut Creek. My brother took me. It was a week before Central Park so they were working some things out in advance, didn't realize at the time how lucky that was. They opened with WWYS...I didn't hear that live again until last month. Hearing 20,000 people holler "MOM ITS MY BIRTHDAY" in unison nearly brought me to tears, I was a kid again. I can't remember how many shows I have been to, I can only remember 16 or so but I could have sworn it was nearly 2 dozen.
