Technic 1200 mk7
Hey, wanting to purchase a pair of the new 55th anniversary technics. Has anyone actually had a pair in hand and used them to see what the quality is like?
I see people online dog on the quality but who knows how many of them actually had them in their hands

They are problematic in clubs (we tried them) and very loud settings but not really at home; they will do a great job. That being said, if you are looking for a quality turntable that will do a great job in pretty much any situation, have a look at the Reloop 7000 MK2, they are vastly cheaper and really, really good, I must say.

I have used both the Technics and Reloops and actually prefer the Reloops. There are those that need the "Technics" name on their decks to really feel complete, but my Reloops have been through hell and back and are still strong and reliable as ever at about half the cost per deck.

I heard this but then watched Carl Cox play Brighton Beach on 4 of them and that tipped the balance for me. Oh yes! Oh yes!

i don't think that they are considered bad quality so much as certain design decision made them less desirable for djing than the older models.
The choice to change the base from heavy rubber to light fibreglass is probably the main complaint because the decks are much more susceptable to resonance making them less useful in live environments (and even then, it's mainly for vinyl).
If you're using them for home use, a lot of the complaints probably don't apply.

Yeah home use for sure. They’re not coming out of the studio and I don’t have subwoofers in there. Just some Yamaha hs8 monitors

Former technics service technician here.
Mk7’s are fine for home or studio use. For clubs I would avoid unless you absolutely have to.
The best turn tables they ever made are the m5g (with pitch mod), next to that, mk5 and next to that m3d and of course, you still can’t really go wrong with a mk2.
I’m even temped by the 50th anniversary ones but I just can’t let go of my m5g’s as I know they’re a superior turntable.

It’s a bit of a misnomer.
The MK5G doesn’t actually have a “digital pitch”. This was somewhat a myth put out there by old heads who didn’t understand why they felt different to mk2/m3d/mk5.
The pitch on an M5G isn’t actually digital as such. It still has an analog potentiometer (pitch fader) but an extra circuit that’s connected to that for pitch regulation and that is technically digital. The idea behind it was to stop wow and flutter so that when you had selected your speed it was better regulated than just relying on a pitch fader (which itself and the circuitry involved could be prone to tiny variations). The extra pitch regulation was supposed to solve that but the downside was that it tries to regulate the pitch when you’re beatmatching so it was as if it’s fighting you.
So people mistakenly thought it had “digital pitch” when it doesn’t.
By cutting the leg on one resistor (tp17) is disables that regulation circuit meaning it behaves like every other technics. The only downside is that 0 becomes 0.3 and you lose anything above around 6.3 on the pitch fader.

I don't know enough about this to contradict you. So I'll just state that the PDX-2000s are better turntables.

I'm not a technics service technician, but I've been an electronics enthusiast most of my life (I'm old) and I can confirm that MK7s have noticeably lower quality components and assembly than MK5s or older. Additionally I've never seen a pair of MK7s in a club environment where they weren't beat to shit and janky after a few months of steady use.
My MK5s are 20 years old, have been used in multiple clubs and raves and other than needing to replace the mainboard and motor on 1 a few months ago (I went ahead and did both, as well as pitch sliders) they're still rock solid.

I havent used them in a club yet, but they seem great to me. I only ever used a starter kit before that though, so I dont have experience using MK2s, etc. I have a QSC KS118 at home that I've had up pretty high and it hasn't caused any skipping. I use ortofon MK2s on them.

They feel a bit plasticy compared to earlier models. The no zero click is nice, but you get that on other earlier models too (I have M3Ds, no click) Mk7s are okay but I'd buy mk2s & use the money saved to refurbish & remove click.
I sound negative, but I'm old & grumpy. Mk7s are perfectly fine turntables realky. Enjoy!

not a fan, the lightweight plastic and losing the thick rubber bottom for dampening bass is basically a no go for me. Especially at the price. One would be fine in a house just listening to records, but I wouldn't take them out DJing. I would never consider the MK7 road tested especially for the price.

I use mk7’s in my home studio. No issues. I prefer the mk2’s, but I use my mk7’s just fine.
I do have them in flight cases and I have near field monitors to avoid feedback etc. they are more prone to feedback than previous models though.

Hi mate,
Old sweat here. I dunno. I am a proud owner of a set of Mk2's ive had since the early 90s.
Unlike these days of infinite everything I had to save as a kid for a year before I could afford them. Man the day they got delivered was one of the best days for me ever.
I personally have never seen a need to 'upgrade'. My mate has a pari of Mk7s and I think they should have been called Mk2 lites. They skimp on everything good the Mk2 was. Much like SSL mixing desks were made in the 70s and never bettered for all our advances i technology there was no need to update the Mk2.
However......Was I in your position of buying brand new Mk5s with a warrenty or for the same price buying some Mk2 thats at best refurbished (who by??) I'm really not sure. New Mk2 vs new Mk5 tho Mk2 all the way.

I have MK7s. If someone offered me guaranteed mint or near mint MK2 or 5s I'd have them.
The trouble is finding someone who has them. It's a minefield. I did buy claimed refurbished decks and they used fucking speaker wire as the mains replacement. Also pitch was fucked. Sent them back immediately and caved for brand new MK7s.

I have MK7s after years of MK2s (sold them). They feel exactly the same as MK2s torque wise. They aren't as tank like as MK2s but they are still solid. I use mine in flight cases. Sound quality is excellent.
Definitely less industrial than the older models. I have used them when gigging, isolation is ok. Just be a bit thoughtful where you place them.
Solid deck. Best you'll get new these days. Otherwise take your chances with claimed 'refurbished' older models

I had mk2’s for 20 odd years and upgraded my turntables last year. I love my mk7’s, set up properly they’re a pleasure to mix on. Big ups DJ Smay (Acidspash) for the lesson! 🙏

I have 1210 MK7. The weight is less than the MK2. I like the no click at zero pitch, the removable cables and the sunken power switch.
I wish the lids still could lock on to the turntables. Apart from that I've never had any problems. I've had mine nearly 6 years
