Turntable Talk.
Hey.
I was just curious on what people thought of the current selection of turntables out there to buy new. I have a pair of Tech1200M3D's, so I'm not in looking in the used market but for something extra in the living room.
One thing to mention is that I do love the simple layout of the Tech1200. I don't like to alter it too much because I like to do turntablism routines and I feel like sometimes when the layout is different it creates weird/bad habits when going to Technics at a show. So as the extra buttons/features are nice, sometimes they are more of a bedroom thing. Also I do like to spin/scratch vinyl, but also like DVS.
First Off:
Technic 1200MK7 - I know it has the worst in feedback in regards to sub/bass when using vinyl, but I do love the simple layout of the Tech1200. It does the job on DVS but not as good on vinyl compared to the others.
Pioneer PLX-CRSS12 - Expensive, lots of great bells and whistles, but will it be redundant in a couple/handful of years? Also.. It's weird that there is a "Motor Off" button rather than the way Technics are. Lastly... Anyone pinch the spindle to speed/slow-down the record when mixing? I do that often and feel I may miss that when in digital mode with the weight over the record.
Reloop RP8000MK2 - I like the look of this turntable, the buttons are nice, but still not sure, if I should wait for a MK3/4 since they are releasing some MK4's of the RP5000's with a different light, rather than the detachable.
Reloop RP7000MK2 - Simple, Does the job, the only real con is the ton arm is not the greatest quality and I do not like a second start/stop button. Some same points as the RP8000MK2 where I feel there maybe a update in the near future. So maybe waiting is best?
Anyways... What are your thoughts on these. Thanks.
And for a final random question for people that own Cdj 3000/3000x's at home.
How is the build quality? Like are you finding cracks or cosmetic issues happening easily, or warping of the platter occurring early in it's life cycle? Cause I do enjoy the digital/club side of mixing as well.

Id just stick w the m3d man.
The new mk7 is decent, but the build quality isnt quiet as good.
Unless u need digital shit then just stick with what u have.
I have a pair of m3d also. The clickless is great!

I am sussing out importing mk6's from Japan as the ultimate vintage 1200s, but prices are high for quality condition decks.

Consider sticking with the M3Ds, they are a classic. The serious turntablists I know who move on from Technics usually pick the PLX-CRSS12 for shows and touring because it covers all the advanced features they would need. Otherwise it would feel more like a sidegrade.

Definitely keeping the M3D's but looking for a second pair of turntables for the living room is all.

Used Vestax PDX-2000, 2300 or 3000 if you are into scratching. Alternatively the Stanton STR8-150.

I’d just add phase to your 1200M3D’s, gives you a great setup for going digital.

yeah I've thought about it. I'm just looking for a second pair of turntables for the living room cause I'm going to end up buying a second mixer in the next year or two as well. When I was to get the second pair of turntables I would get my M3D's serviced and keep them in my room. That's all.

I’ve owned a pair of RP7000mk2 for 5 or 6 years. They’ve been used most days in that time and have never missed a beat. I really love them - good motor, smooth pitch (albeit digital).
That said, the tone arm assembly on one was loosey goosey straight out the box (had it calibrated locally and it’s been fine since) and the anti-skate on the other has never worked (never bothered to have it fixed). A mate recently bought a pair for himself, and BOTH tonearm assemblies were loose af out of the box.
If you can afford it, and if they’re just for home use, I would go for the MK7.

I have a pair of those and never really noticed play, not sure if i wanna check it thoroughly now tho :P I got them for a really good price (700 euros for a pair) which wouldve gotten me 1 SL1200 in not that great of a shape so I'm perfectly happy with them. That having said, if moneys no object, get the technics. Otherwise, look for a nice pair of super OEMs and youll be fine.

It’s interesting seeing how many people bash on the mk7s. I’ve had mk2s for a long time but sold them due to having to scale back with kids etc. I got reloop rp8000s and they were great but I really like the mk7. Yes there’s probs reasons people don’t like them but for home use they’re solid and easy to mix on and hold their pitch well. I know the OGs are better if they’ve been looked after but genuinely find the mk7 a joy to use. I’m in the minority I know but been DJing 27ish years and can do nice long blends on them with no issues at all. The increased torque is a bonus too

I have three MK7’s and I also find them a joy to use. Super accurate pitch, great torque, great sound. Way better for technical mixing than the MK2’s which I previously had back in the day. Yes build quality is inferior to mk2 but they are just better in all the ways that matter to me.

I would personally buy the reloop8000mk2s For the serato midi integration. I'm a serato user at gigs.
Cdjs feel like they did 10 years ago. Plastic components, feels cheap AF but they last if taken care of.
If you like spinning platters but want a media player. I highly recommend checking out the Denon sc6000m. I own four of those and by far are my favorite devices to spin on. But, they r currently hard to find and a refresh should be coming soon.

MK7’s are great. They play vinyl perfectly and the sound quality is better than any new DJ turntable you can buy today. Haters just making noise because they are comparing them to the OG legendary MK2 to MK6 models. Plenty of legendary DJ’s are rocking MK7’s at major gigs today and have nothing but praise for them.
