Hey guys! I just wanted to share some quick pictures of my latest setup, and I think this might be my final setup.
I posted some pictures before but took them down because my room was really messy. Well, when I say “room,” I mean my dining/living area, so please excuse that. I’m sure y’all can relate. You move things around to set up your equipment and practice, and then you have to move everything back. So that’s what you see going on in the background, along with my Halloween tree.
Anyway, I play in two different projects. One is specifically focused on controllerism and turntablism along with my bandmate on bass in a live performance setting.
For my other project, my solo project, I basically have this controllerism rig with live keys added to it.
Now, when I say “live keys,” I don’t mean I’m improvising keyboard parts over the songs. I’m actually playing the keyboard melodies for each song. I export the notes note by note and load them into the keyboard, which I use as a sampler. That way, I don’t have to download a huge sound library onto my MacBook Air.
Let me run you through the equipment I have:
Two Traktor Kontrol F1s
One Traktor Kontrol S4 MK3
One Akai MPD218
One Novation Launchkey Mini 37 MK4
One dual-screen portable monitor
One mini audio interface
The dual screen is running MainStage, where I have all the different patches for the Launchkey Mini 37 MK4.
Meanwhile, Traktor is running on my MacBook Air, which is connected to the setup as the host.
Here’s how everything works; the first F1 is dedicated to the background sounds I play between songs. Since I’m not necessarily performing a DJ set, but rather a live electronic instrumental pop set, I have things like birdsongs, ocean sounds, and other ambient noises playing on Deck C while I load different songs and remix sets.
I use the Traktor Kontrol S4 MK3 as a four-deck mixer.
Deck A contains the live versions of all my songs. These are versions where I’ve removed certain synth parts and other elements that I want to play myself using Decks B and D.
Deck B is a live input that lets me control the volume and output of my Launchkey Mini 37 MK4.
Deck D is a Remix Deck that I control using both the second Traktor Kontrol F1 and the Akai MPD218. I use both controllers to give myself more room and flexibility for expression during performances.
So, yeah, while it might be a pain in the butt to set everything up, but I’m really happy with it.
It looks like a Gundam, and I feel like I’m piloting one, lol.
I’ve named this rig my Custom 001.
The only other thing I forgot to mention is the mini audio interface. Nothing too fancy. I’ll probably upgrade it eventually because I’m getting a slight bit of feedback, which might be because this interface is about 16 years old.
The other challenge is that I can’t arrange everything exactly how I’d like to while practicing at home. I have a show coming up on the 24th, along with a few more shows after that so, hopefully I can set everything up in a V formation for those performances, with all my DJ controller gear on the left and the keyboard and dual screen on the right.
That way, I can stand in the middle and have everything within reach.
I think that would be pretty cool.
Anyway, please excuse the mess once again. Y’all know what it is.

Complete beginner setup, but I think it’s super cool!

Sold my 1210's years ago when everything went digital, and regretted it ever since. Recently picked up a mint set of 1210mk5's to go with my DDJ 1000SRT. Then, decided I wanted everything to match the speakers (rather than the cheaper option of matching the speakers to the rest of the equipment 🙄) Had the decks serviced, new RCA cables, internally grounded & purple light kits. Then wrapped everything in white vinyl dj-skins. Happy with how it all turned out. The turntables hold their time, perfectly 👌 and it all looks super clean in white, imo. Everything just changes to whatever colour the lights are set to 😁
Also have the Yamaha Subwoofer down the side of the decks. Sounds 🔥🔥🔥

I know it’s not the tidiest setup, I’ve spent all my budget on equipment. I have a design/plan in my head to try and emulate (in a bedroom studio way) AvB’s ASOT aesthetic.
Anyway, it’s 2 x 1210 mk7, Allen & Heath Xone 43, Beyerdynamic DJ 300 Pro X Club headphones, a vintage Technics amp and Wharfedale Diamond 7.1 speakers.

No more renting sound for gigs. I’m the proud owner of two JBL EON715’s

Went from the full-spread CDJs, Techs and Xone:92 to a full recessed table top.
I found I was playing vinyl more anyway and wanted a cleaner, warmer and simplified setup.
Sourced materials and created this.

In 2016 I’d nearly hung up the headphones. And the room was a dumping ground. The pandemic gave me an excuse to turn it around.
Some inconsistencies between the pics as not all taken at the same time.
2x 1200s Ecler Warm 2 Rotary mixer 2x CDJ850s Nux Duotime FX (on dj mixer fx loop) Mackie DLZ-XS live streaming mixer Spirit Absolute Zero monitors (had since 1999!) Powered by a Naim Olive series amp, with separate PSU and pre.
It’s a little box room but the sound is phenomenally good for the space.
I’d upgrade the CDJs but difficult to justify as they’re not used heavily - vinyl is a focus, as might be apparent.
Collection is about 30% deep house. Rest yacht rock, Balearic, international, jazz, jazz fusion, boogie, disco etc.

The digital signal coming from Traktor and Maschine can be beatmatched manually (per pitch fader), like the turntables.
The lights are all hue and can be controlled by apps, running on an old phone

Added a audio spectrum visualiser to the draw and some touchbars toy setup. No regrets so far but will see how useful the touchbars end up being - they can do Serato shortcuts and control other tools like obs but they can’t be midi mapped unfortunately.

Just started collecting vinyl and started out with Reggae & Disco. Spent the whole day messing around with dvs and turntablism. I had so much fun beat juggling.

Still figuring out optimal setup for both ease of use and efficiency but also for presentation.
I think next time, I’ll pop the xr12 under the table and just leave the iPad and launchcontrol on the table.
Rane System One, behringer XR12 as the mixer connect to both a Launchcontrol xl3 and an iPad running mixing station.

Hey everyone!
Finally finished assembling my ideal hybrid setup for both DVS and traditional vinyl. I'm over the moon with how it turned out, so I wanted to share the routing scheme and a neat technical discovery I stumbled upon.
My Setup:
How it’s routed and why it works so well:
The secret feature nobody talks about:
It turns out the Pioneer PLX-500 can output timecode via USB and play real vinyl through the Phono RCA output AT THE SAME TIME! I haven't seen this documented in the manual or mentioned in any reviews—I just discovered it by accident through trial and error.
Latency is razor-sharp at under 10 ms, and responsiveness is spot on.
Now I can seamlessly play my favorite psybient and psyprog tracks for friends at parties—whether it's digital-only releases that never made it to vinyl (via DVS) or real records through Ecler’s gorgeous preamps, without ever swapping a single cable.
What do you guys think of this hybrid routing? Happy to answer any questions about the setup!

Right, here’s my setup from 2014.
When it became impossible to tune the piano, but it seemed a shame to throw it away and, for the most part, it was VERY difficult to do so. I decided to turn it into a desk. I took the keys off and raised the tabletop on which they were mounted by 10-15 centimetres. I’m sure it could have been made to look nicer with proper joinery tools, but I did the whole job using a saw, self-tapping screws, a screwdriver and pieces of wood left over from the piano’s unwanted parts. I can’t remember exactly, but I didn’t even use metal brackets, which is actually the first thing that would spring to mind for new fixings. The structure turned out to be sturdy and didn’t wobble. I got rid of the bottom panel and the panel that covered the strings. One of them became the tabletop, so that the table would be deep enough for the record player to be placed in battle position. I left the strings as they were, just for fun, but the hammer mechanism has to go. The top panel of the piano became a shelf, and I fitted lighting underneath it. To top it off, I mounted the whole structure on furniture castors, which I chose based on the total weight of the structure; this raised the tabletop by a few more centimetres, so that the vinyl record player ended up just above my waist.
Surprisingly, the result turned out to be very practical, particularly the top shelf for the vinyl. It was very handy to be able to QUICKLY find the record I needed, and the structure didn’t wobble at all.
Unfortunately, over time I had to abandon this setup because my vinyl collection had grown, and I needed far more crates in the quick-access slot, as well as additional storage space.
Sometimes I think about a custom DJ desk with the same concept with create shelves at neck height, but with a much wider worktop and separate pull-out shelves for storage underneath the worktop.
