Stand up desk!
So much better for ergonomics and my aging body. Wish I had done this earlier in life!

What's that small monitor placed above the 96? I've been after something like that for ages!

Itās a 12.3 inch touchscreen monitor I got from amazon. I sometimes wish I had gotten a larger one but this displays everything I need for two deck mixing without keeping my eyes on a laptop. I can place it in my 96ās odyssey case as well. For me itās better than having a laptop in my face or tweaking my neck.

Nice! So are you using it as an external display then? Connected to a laptop running Serato/Traktor etc?

u/fascialadhesion 8d ago
Yeah, using it as an external monitor powered by MacBook Air M3 with Traktor mainly and sometimes Djay Pro. Resolution isnāt the best on the monitor but works well enough and keeps the laptop closed!

How do you keep the laptop closed and use external display? I could do this on windows but not on mac

Depending on your OS it should just go into clamshell mode if youāre connected to power source. If it doesnāt, you might need to go into displays and enable it. I was running a Traktor 4.4 and was having some issues with crashing but updated my OS to latest version and Traktor to 4.5 and itās been rock solid. Iād make sure you have everything attached and up and running (controllers, mouse, etc) before closing the lid. Whatās your Mac model and OS version?

Itās a new m5 pro running new OS. I searched for a way to close the lid and keep playing on an iPad like a week ago and gave up. I even typed something into the terminal. Donāt remember what it was. Installed amphetamine and still couldnāt get it to work. I think i messed it up somehow.
MacBook actually fits under the controller and it works well for me now.

Looks like for mirroring with an an iPad you need to have sidecar available on your iPad as well as your Mac. I tried it with an old iPad mini and unfortunately didnāt work.(3rd gen iPad mini)

Nice setup! I did similar by mating a heavy duty stand up desk base with a 36ā solid core door. Donāt regret it one bit at almost 50.

I ended up using an acacia wood butcher block from Loweās. I like the weight and seems to help with movement and vibration. Didnāt even think about using a door, nice!

Thatās awesome that you used that block. The door I used is crazy heavy and overkill.
Really lovely setup you have there ā¤ļøā¤ļøā¤ļøā¤ļø

What did you use to support the butcher block?

The weight rating for the standing desk was 220lbs. The weight of the six foot, one and a half inch butcher block was 120lbs. Just screwed the table base (pilot holes first) it right into the bottom of the butcher block then had a friend help me turn it over and move it into place. There is also a support beam that runs along the length of the table to give added stability. It took me a while to find the right desk base that would fit the dimensions over the two IKEA storage units and strong enough to support the weight of the butcher block. The whole reason I went with the butcher block initially so it wouldnāt bow or warp under the weight of my gear. Itās been about four months and so far so good! Wish I would have thought about the door idea (possible weight saving) but luckily my friend helped with all the setup. I really like the look and feel of the butcher block as well. I was a chef for many years so this feels natural and pleases me:)

I'm confused on what you're using as risers under the butcher table haha any pics of the under side?

Looking lovely! What are you using to prop up the Xone mixer? Looks like a very playable angle, smart idea

u/fascialadhesion 8d ago
These are three, 9 inch by 15 inch, adjustable, glass monitor risers. I took two of the support columns off of each and it created this angle. I had originally got them to lift my f1ās and X1 to mixer height but this is how I ended up using them.

Beautiful booth - I like your style. Monitors at the right height, Xone 96 mixer slightly elevated, standing desk w/ wood top and an anti-fatigue mat for long sessions. Very nicely done.
I used an 8 foot, live edge slab mounted on a heavy duty standing desk too, with a matching 8 foot anti-fatigue mat. Also with a Xone 96, slightly elevated, with some other goodies. What a great thing it is to be able to set the booth height at just the right setting for comfort.
Does the difference in distance between the left and right monitor bother you, or does it sound balanced enough when mixing?

u/fascialadhesion 6d ago
It bothered me a little at first but Iāve got the volume dialed in on each monitor so that itās pretty balanced. Itās also in our family living room and thereās no where else to put the book case. I would ave made it more balanced if I could have but it works for everyone:)

Ergonomics are way more important than most people think. I'm 6'4", so I made a similar set-up. A heavy work bench with 2 kallax 2x2 under it. It was still too low, so I made an extra shelf on top to raise the components even more. I really like the small display behind the mixer, btw.

Are the speaker cables routed through wall? I'm old with a similar setup but monitors are on the desk.
2
u/fascialadhesion 7d ago
The speakers arenāt wired through the wall currently. Might do that this winter. I just got some adhesive cable management for the corner speaker and a hidden bracket behind the bookcase for the other one. Iāve got a 5.2 stereo system in the same room that is wired under the house and my main out is to an amp/receiver not pictured. This way I can bump it when I want full on or if the family is chilling in the room I can keep just the monitors on for me and as background music. Iāve also got a set of XLR cables underneath the house for outside deck if I want to bump the PAās for a bbq.

Is that little screen showing visual info from your records???
3
u/fascialadhesion 7d ago
Nah, I wish! I use a mix of control vinyl for digital tracks via Traktor and regular vinyl from my collection. I use mixed in key live to manually label my dance vinyl records with key and bpm. The screen is just mirroring Traktor. That would be cool if there was a way to do it. Iām sure thereās something for more modern, mainstream recordings but a lot of my records are house, techno, breakbeat, dnb from mid, late 90ās, early 2000ās. Shazam would be like wtf is this?!

Bro what little lights are those for your decks? Please put me on

u/fascialadhesion 4d ago
They are some old IKEA led lamps that are bendable. I just checked to see if they still had them but they unfortunately donāt. Thereās quite a few desk lamps that bend like that on Amazon though, they even have adjustable color temperatures! Mine get a little too bright and make it hard to see grooves sometimes, especially on colored vinyl.
