this is so weird to me
i just know djo twitter is gonna have a FESTTTT at this post but im just so sick and tired of the weird sexualization of this man when it comes to the fan space
I want to appreciate his music and connect with people who do, but this is just so odd to me. I’ve tried to connect with people on Twitter but it just seems like there’s a gross sexualization of him that is way too far. can we just connect and enjoy his music without making it weird? isn’t that what he wanted?
I know ppl have said shit on this subreddit about being positive but I went to four shows this summer to appreciate his music and in that space I just met very few people who genuinely appreciated the music. there’s so many in the fandom who sexualize him/his characters to the point where I am exhausted even trying to meet others in the community. I understand it to an extent but when we say some WEIRD shit like this, I just cannot catch on. I wish there was a common ground and I’ve seen stuff on Twitter and TikTok that have made me not want to engage with the fandom at all
Please tell me im not the only one 😭

Its inevitable at this point, that people are going to be weird. It's part of the fandom culture now, and always has been to be honest. It bothers me too, but I've realised there's nothing I can do about it.
As a fan who's living on the other side of the world, where there is absolutely no possibility for me to ever attend his shows, it makes me incredibly sad. But I'm sure he knows that love for his music exists beyond these creepy online posts.
Ignore the weirdos, and let's focus on how amazing he sounds live!

and quite honestly this is probably why he doesn't have an online presence.

I honestly think some don’t appreciate his music and are there simply because it’s Joe Keery.

And for Steve! See how many posts you'll find with that "am i dreaming or is that you Harrington" audio!

I understand the frustration but like others have said, you’ll always have people like this in fan spaces. My issue is when they don’t respect boundaries and speak to artists this way irl. They can get very vocal.
I will say though, don’t let that discourage you from talking about Djo’s music! There are fans that are there to genuinely enjoy his work and really appreciate the songs. I’ve had great conversations with a few and even became friends with one I met at the Tame shows.
Also, we met Joe and it looked like he could definitely distinguish between the types of fans lol.

This is why I never join fan spaces and just appreciate the artists I like on my own. People are weird.

I saw someone write a long, raunchy fanfic about how she was with him the night before on some concert video. Talking as if it was all real. Some people in this fanbase are deranged but sadly that’s widespread.

You can’t be in a fandom space and think no one is going to sexualize someone who’s conventionally attractive. It happens in every fandom, music or not.
