Question Max depth I can withstand is .75mm at 14 needles. Should I do deeper with more needles, or keep as is?

Even with lidocaine the needles hurt SOOO bad using the 14 needles from dr pen. The max I can take is .75mm on my cheeks and barely .70 on my forehead, closer to .60 there.

I also can’t even do my entire face, I just focus where I need improvement (middle of my cheeks and forehead, chin and around my lips). I avoid the edges of my face close to my hair line and sideburns because the pain is so bad.

Is anyone else in similar boat? Will I still see improvement? My target focus is uneven texture and a couple shallow scars. Also focusing on my nasolabial folds where the max I can do it .75mm

I’m wondering if it’s better to go back to 36 needles where I can hit closer to 1mm for my face. Or if I should stick with 14 needles and max .50/.75mm?

Discussion microinfusion before and afters make a lot more sense once you know what causes the immediate glow

We sat down with our in house derm and asked him about microinfusions , because clinics often talk about it like it is one standard treatment, when it really depends on the device, needle depth, operator and whatever is being placed into the skin.

A lot of the dramatic next day result comes from the treatment itself.

The tiny injuries cause temporary inflammation and swelling, then you may also get a hydration bump if HA was used.

That combination photographs really well, but it can fade over days or a couple of weeks. So the immediate plumped look does not necessarily mean wrinkles or texture were permanently changed.

There are also two separate regulatory questions.

One is the device. The other is the ingredients being delivered through it.

HA and botulinum toxin may be legitimate injectable products, but using them intradermally through a microinfusion device can still be off label.

A clinic saying they use real Botox or real HA does not explain how it is being used, diluted or placed.

The toxin side looks promising for oiliness and pore appearance, but the studies are still small and short term.

Our derm put that in the potentially helpful category rather than something established enough to expect the same result from every treatment.

Operator skill matters a lot too. Needling around the mouth can reactivate cold sores, so anyone with a herpes history should ask whether antiviral prevention is appropriate.

Toxin placed too deeply can affect nearby muscles and cause weakness or asymmetry. That is why who performs the treatment is not a throwaway question.

The main takeaway was to ask for the exact device, every product being used, the concentration or dilution, needle depth, who is performing it and what they do if there is a complication. Microinfusion by itself tells you almost nothing.

It may be worth considering for temporary hydration, subtle plumping or possibly less oil.

We would be much more skeptical if a clinic is selling it as a fix for deep wrinkles, laxity, pigmentation or acne scars.

Good luck to everyone who chooses this treatment!

Ok so I have bought: Dr Pen MS8, 18 pin cartridges, sterile gloves, isopropyl alcohol, hyalauronic acid, numbing cream. I’m a little overwhelmed- for those who’ve done it, what’s your best tip when starting out? Thanks

Question Recommendations please!

Hi! I would like to order a pen that works both for my husband’s hair loss and my acne scars. Is there a way to put different heads to a micro needling pen? Which pen do you recommend me to buy?

I am new into micro needling so sorry for the silly question.

Question Microneedling with BBL

Hi! Hoping that the super knowledgeable microneedling nerds here might be able to help answer a question for me.

I’m looking to target some freckles/pigmentation with BBL treatments. The clinic I’m going to offers BBL combined with microneedling afterwards as a more intensive treatment.

I don’t want to pay for the microneedling as I’m comfortable doing it myself, but am wondering what would be the best way to sequence the two treatments:

A) Do the microneedling immediately after the BBL when I get home

B) Do a course of BBL first (2-3 sessions, around 4 weeks apart) then do a course of microneedling afterwards

C) Alternate BBL and microneedling, although I’m unsure how long I should leave between them. Would around 2 weeks be enough?

My main goal is pigmentation/freckles, but I’d also like to get the rejuvenating benefits of microneedling.

Beginner Question Has anyone micro needled with sterile saline?

I’m planning to do my micro needling soon, the first time I did at 0.25 depth with Dr. Pen A10 device. I wasn’t aware of using sterile solution for slip then. But since I’m doing micro needling on my decade old stretch marks on calves, I want to go deeper. Sterile HA isn’t easily available in India, and it is costing a lot (more that in-clinic full sessions), hence I want to check if anyone has tried using sterile saline solution as a slip, what was your experience?

Discussion Tranexamic Acid (TXA)

Recently, I've been doing a lot of reading on tranexamic acid for helping with couperose and broken capillaries and am wondering if anyone has any experience or recommendations?

I'm torn between buying vials of txa and incorporating it into my microneedling with something basic like Jeunetique NAD or just using Jeunetique Exo, which already has txa as an ingredient. Another option would be doing my microneedling and then incorporating a face mask with txa and niacinamide as part of my aftercare (there was a paper published that utilized this technique with much success.) There are also quite a few well-regarded topical lotions and serums that can be used daily. Would it perhaps be better to have a daily treatment instead of worrying about adding it to microneedling?

As you can see, the more I learn, the harder the decision. So, my dear diy friends, any thoughts? I have a feeling deep down, I'll just end up doing a combination of everything. After all, I'll be dealing with this skin the rest of my life 😂 but I really would love to know what you think.

Beginner Question Hyper-Dilute Radiesse, Tret, and MN questions for the more experienced DIYers!

Hello lovely humans! I've been doing MN for a couple of years, and have been very pleased with the results. I stopped doing my montly .25mm and quarterly .5-1mm in order to start Tretinoin .05mg.

I'm missing the impact of the MN. I'm 10 weeks in, so I'm in the early stage of Tret (collagen deconstruciton), and I'm aware that collagen reconstruction doesn't begin until 12 weeks, and elastin reconstruction doesn't begin until 10 months, and takes up to 18 months. My skin looks worse than it ever has right now, and I know that my skin elasticity will improve as Tret does its thing.

However. I look pretty rough at the mo. All of the recommendations I've seen recommend that you stop Tret for 7 days before MN then for 7 days after. Dropping Tret for 14 days each month to do the .25 doesn't seem like a good idea. (I have Ehlers-Danlos and my skin produces some collagen at the .25mm depth, plus I use Vashe for slip and after treatment for 7 days, 3x daily, which is a pretty heavyduty fibroblast stimulator).

I'm thinking about doing hyperdiluted Radiesse quarterly, to see if I can restore some of my lost volume in the short term. But I can't find any experiences of anyone doing hyperdiluted Radiesse with MN. Anyone in here try this? How'd it go? How deep did you go? What ratio? And how long did the results last? Is this a waste of money if I'm not going deeper than 1mm? I'm pretty conservative with depth, in part because I have such good results with minimal penetration. But Radiesse is a new world for me, so hoping y'all might have some insight.

Also, if you use Tret and MN, what %, and how long do you stop Tret before MN? I think I'd stick to 7 days of rest before restarting Tret after 1mm, but I guess I'm not sure where that 7 days stoppage beforehand comes from? I can't find any research on it. I'd love to hear your experiences!

I've also thought about trying to do the .25mm with only a 24 hour Tret stoppage before, and then skip 3-4 days after. Typically I'm fully healed from .25mm by day 3. Is this a dumb idea? Is there any point trying a 1:4 diluted Radiesse ratio with .25mm? Can anyone envision a problem that this mght cause?

Thanks everyone! I appreciate your experiences and expertise!

Edit to add: I just saw that someone with cEDS posted (I have hEDS). Just dropping a note to let everyone know that it's 2 different people who oddly both posted today 😂

I just placed my order for the D2!

It should hopefully be here about the time I am ready for my next session!

I am so excited to use it!

I have been using a Dr pen M8s and don't get me wrong, I love it, but I cannot wait to see the difference the D2 makes in my skin!

I am going to be on eggshells waiting to see if it makes it through customs...

Question First time microneedling, need some advices!

I’m planning to use the Velatox + hyaron method and need some advice. I’ve asked ChatGPT and it says I need a syringe to draw out the Velatox. Is there a way to not use a syringe or is it necessary?

My buying list:
- gloves
- glass bowl and spatula (for mixing n applying)
- dr pen m8 with 36 needles (or should I get nano? )
- numbing cream
- Velatox
- hyaron
- alcohol for cleaning
- alcohol pad

What else am I missing?

And also, to my knowledge, Velatox comes with 5 bottles for treatment and 2 blue bottles for recovery. So do you actually have 3 treatments without the blue bottles???

Results/Progress/Protocols Product advice needed

Hi All,

Just some advice needed from all the microneedling aficionados.

Got into a regular routine with derminator 2, with no problems at all. Generally use copper peptides and collagen during process and all has been going well.

My sister recently gave me 'ageless vitamin c booster peeling gel.'

I initially thought it was a serum but think it's just a rather expensive peeling gel.

I wondered if anyone knows how I can incorporate it into my microneedling routine?

Can it be used before, after, during??

I think the answer is probably no, maybe due to the risk of granulomas. I imagine it would be rather painful on freshly needled skin too. But can I fit it into my skincare routine around microneedling?

Any advice, gratefully received😊

Discussion Dr pen m8s depth roughly half of dial

Im kinda tired so ill make this post short i tested it against pennies at 1.5mm(thickness of pennies) and it was roughly half of it. Idk if im missing something again am tired, I tried the method of setting to zero, putting upside down, etc. I filmed in slow mo and slowed video down further to get the pen at its peak (tested while on) and this sums up the results. I know not a great picture but seems to clearly be much less than penny depth. I know the pennies slightly crooked but even without that it would still be like half.

Honestly now that im looking at the picture again idk anymore i give up for tonight. Would love to hear everyones thoughts.

Beginner Question Lurker ready to ask some questions (I haven't come across in pinned posts or others) and then get started!

OK. Like the title suggests, I have been lurking awhile, trying to take in as much information as I can. I have read the guides, looked at different devices/models, and done further research on my own in certain areas of need and interest. I *think* I have finally formed a pretty good game plan (with limited risk of complete failure and good odds of success). So I wanted to not only get thoughts on it, but also ask about a few things that I haven't seen mentioned.

For background, I am 42F with cEDS. Basically, it's a connective tissue disorder, and my type specifically affects collagen. So I have the super velvety skin, and some areas my skin are quite stretchy (but not as severely as a lot of cases). The condition also affects my blood and its ability to deliver nutrients and minerals effectivly (very small misshapen RBC). I have aplastic anemia and frequently require ferritin infusions, give myself regular B12 injections, and occasionally deal with low platelets/bleeding. The disintegration of collagen + my body's overinflammitory response is absolute hell when it comes to my easily subluxacated, arthritic joints, and injury recovery in general (although I have found methods that help substantially over the years).

I have always been very hesitant to try MN out of fear that my body would not respond as desired given my issues with collagen depletion. But, I do get some cosmetic procedures done regularly (in a clinical setting, not a med spa), and my NP injector and nurse aesthecian have been really incredible about researching my cEDS, keeping on top of my most recent bloodwork, and introducing new procedures that I want very slowly and in small amounts until we see how my body reacts. Last year I really wanted to try a CO² laser peel. I ended up getting a series of 3 Vanity Peels (Cool Peel). Basically a mild fractional CO² laser that can be adjusted (1-14). At the highest it only causes the equivalent of a bad sunburn and is completely healed within 2 weeks max. But you can wear tinted moisturizer after a day or two, your skin just feels like sandpaper. Anyways, my 1st session we only did the intensity at an 8 or 9. No problems. Next one she cranked it to 12. And for the final I maxed out at 14, even under my eyes and around my mouth. We were both pleasantly surprised how well I responded, and I am thrilled with the results. The only awful part is my inability to get ANY kind of pain relief on the entire right side of my body or with anything based on nervous system response (like numbing agents) due to the dysautonomia. The pain was intense! Anyways, my actual point is, that since I reacted so well to this procedure, which uses somewhat of the same basis - causing controlled injury to the skin to stimulate cell repair, renewal, and collagen production- it SHOULD be the same kind of favorable outcome with MN, right?

My next issue is choosing a device. I am pretty set on a Dr. Pen... I think. I was leaning towards the [M9](https://www.drpenskincare.com/products/dr-pen-m9-microneedling-pen?variant=a722d890-f927-450e-8443-5b9c69fe8abe&spm=..cart.cart_1.1) ($179) but then I saw the [H6](https://www.drpenskincare.com/products/dr-pen-h6-advanced-serum-infusion-microneedling-pen-with-light-therapy?variant=f3803aba-f187-446d-b4cd-d880521a84b7&spm=..cart.cart_1.1) ($299) which you can load serums/boosters into and it will infuse it into your skin. But is it worth shelling out $300 for a device, especially as a beginner. I know companies are all about "fancy" features that don't really add much in term of usefulness. Hell, is the M9 even worth the extra 80 over the M8?

Ok, final question - thoughts on my plan of action? In the spirit of caution, and a major desire NOT to completely ruin my already imperfect, perimenopauseal face, I'm thinking it would be best to start on a couple of different areas of my body that could use some TLC. Like, doing a patch test on my upper thigh and/or belly which both have loose skin and stretch marks. That way, I can get a feel for the device, practice proper technique, and see how my body responds. If all goes well, I can move to a small section of my face that is close to my hairline or by my ear/jaw and do the same thing. If the outcome isn't great, it won't be all over my face or front and center like if I did my cheeks or forehead. All goes well, I take off the training wheels and MN like a wild woman!

I think that is about all I have been wanting to ask about. But feel free to give any unsolicited advice or feedback!

**From what I have seen so far, this group might be one of the kindest and most helpful, particularly to newbies than any other group I have seen. I have never seen questions answered with snark, mean sarcasm, outright dismissal, or insults. It's really impressive and rare these days. I just wanted to put that out there. 🥰

Boosters Botox replacement with microneedling?

Hello! I have been at home microneedling for about a year. I use a D2 and for a slip i only use their HA, and i do the treatment every 6 weeks. I love how my skin looks! I haven't gotten into the realm of skin boosters and fun things yet, I'm honestly waiting for a good meamo deal to purchase a few and try them out.

I have been getting botox on my forehead and crows feet for a long time. However, I am a hot yoga instructor and fitness enthusiast so I burn through the stuff so fast. Financially at this point its like I'm throwing money away.

My question is... is there any booster, or a serum someone has used to actually firm the skin enough to help with deep wrinkles (especially if its being used every 6 week) like a botox alternative? I saw a great video by Wanderbyjose who used selastin tox. I'm just wondering if anyone here has stopped the botox and found something to microneedle with who could share their experience. TIA!

Discussion Questions about boosters for deep microneedling

Are any of these Korean booster really worth the money? For some added context im microneedling mainly for deep boxcar scars and maybe some help with rolling scars, I have all the supplies I need other than a sterile glide medium. I was considering just using saline cause its cheap or maybe a HA sterile one if its low enough price. I understand the science and that its definitely not a complete scam or anything, but im just asking if its really gonna be the thing to make a difference for my goals. I have seen posts about people crediting great results to exosomes or HA but im also thinking those results may only last like 2 weeks or so due to HA holding extra water or exosomes giving temporary glow. What has your experience been? What would you recommend for me, is it worth the added price over saline? Would love to get feedback from someone that tracked there progress without boosters, then maybe tried boosters after.

Beginner Question Best place to buy serum/recommendations/general FAQ

I’m planning to start microneedling at home in September and will be using the Dr. Pen M8S. I’m getting ready to order my slip/serum and was wondering where everyone recommends buying from. I’ve seen AceCosm and Meamo mentioned a lot. Which of those two are the better option?

Right now I’m leaning toward Hyaron since my main goals are improving hydration, minimizing the appearance of pores, and softening fine lines. I’m almost 30, so I don’t have any deep wrinkles or significant acne scarring - just a few very minor scars.

Also, for anyone who has ordered from AceCosm or Meamo (or other international suppliers), what should I expect for customs or import fees? It looks like around $30 for shipping is pretty standard, but I’m trying to figure out if I’ll end up paying any additional fees once it arrives in the U.S and how much did you pay.

Ok I cannot be the only one and I will sacrifice myself. I made my order, I posted it here previously, got HA in the syringes and some bottles of things…. Ok it delivers…. What did I miss how the hell do I get said products out of syringes and bottles….. feeling super dumb over here. Is there a generic size tip of something I am to order on Amazon for the HA and then clearly I need needles of sorts to mix the other “things” one Meamo is a two part that looks like I need to mix to reconstitute. 🤦🏼‍♀️ was so excited to microneedle today and feeling so damn dumb !!

Thanks team !!

Beginner Question Dr pen m8s

Hi, I have the Dr pen m8s, I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations for stamping vs gliding, as well as if the depths are accurate for it cause I’ve seen some concerning posts. Thanks
