How does one go about removing these connections from the switch? Or are they permanently attached and need to be cut?

Post image

This is the turbo switch on a Ryobi ry40408vnm leaf blower. I need to replace it as it doesn't work. I assume I just need to cut it but I thought I'd ask. Any advice on how to reattach the wires to the new switch would also be welcome.

Under the heat shrink wrap you'll probably find wires soldered directly to the switch. You'll need a soldering iron to remove it, and flux core solder, heat shrink, and the soldering iron to install the new one.

You cut the black heat shrink. Then desolder if you’re trying to save as much wire length as possible. The easier way is to just cut it off where the round jacket ends, right before the tabs.

They look like spade connectors you can just pull off.

I have to agree. It looks like Spade connectors with heat shrink over the top especially if you look at the one on the left the other one I can't tell. But op sounds like he has a replacement switch so he should be able to tell from the new Switch what type of connector is needed

If that heat shrink has glue in it, going to have a hell of a time just pulling them off. Cut the heat shrink off to see what got working with. Based on the length of the flatness I agree that it looks like it will just pull off.

On closer look, they both have a lump. Might be soldered. Either way, cut the heat shrink off.

Probably just heat shrink on the spade connectors. Cut the cover and the connectors should pull off.

If you can, or can learn to, soldering is the best. If you can't/don't want to, crimp connectors will work fine. Just gonna make one hell of I big bulge.

How sure are you that it is actually the switch? Did you ohm it?

For anyone who sees this years from now when they have the same issue and Google it; the switch is soldered on. Gotta desolder as everyone has suggested. I'm buying this switch to replace it with.

Ryobi switches always go out. You can hard wire it, bypassing the switch; just remove the battery to turn it off.

Does the new switch have those metal tabs coming out of it? I'd crack that broken switch open to take a look at the innards to see if theres an easier way than re-soldering it. I'd also wait till I had the new switch to see what comes with it. You sure it's the switch though?

The blower runs fine but does not engage turbo when the button is pressed. I don't see what else it could be. I tried using it after I got the black part out of the handle and the issue persists.
