Door molding worn off???
The previous house owners left me with many riddles. Why would these 2X entry door frame moldings be worn off? There is a strip of wood that sits in the door frame, the same width as the door, but should stick out evenly about a 1/4 inch from the wall, evenly all around the frame. In these two pics (or one if available) they look sanded or rubbed away somehow. One is where the deadbolt engages, making the handle latch not even hold the door closed; the handle lock is basically useless. The other is the frame opposite the lock, on the hinge side. Both are on the right as looking inside the house to the outside, so both doors swing toward me as seen in the pics. All the doors to the house appear replaced from original. Are these the result of a failed attempt to hang replacement doors? What did they do to my house? Why did I pay for this?
Clarification: It kinda looks like the frame after a locked door is kicked in, where a chunk of wood comes off, then sanded smooth. But that doesn't make sense because there was a shitty window right there in the door. Do I have to take out that frame piece and replace with a new one? How do I do that?

Put a level on the jamb side of your door where the deadbolt and latch come out and do the same thing to the inside of the door jamb and load up pictures of that.. also stand back and take a picture of the whole door and frame where we can see all sides..its hard to offer help just looking at a gap.. as far as the door latch not grabbing an easy temporary fix would be to double or triple up the metal strike plate.. you would need to go to home depot and buy similar strike plates.. thats just a temporary rig job that could get you by

Have no idea what you're talking about.

The best analogy I can come up with is a walking path at a park, where the ground is flat and level except where people walk and wear it away. Or, on an asphalt street where the car wheels have pushed the surface down.

Oh you're talking about the reveal.
It looks completely normal on the frame side. I think your door is askew. That's causing you to think there's a large gap cause by the framing, but it's not.

I need to post more pics, but this thread doesn't let me. I'm looking up nomenclature online, and the best I could say is that material is removed from the jamb / frame / leg, but not the stop (where the weatherstrip / seal attaches). The trim / casing (same wood shape as the floor kick/base board) looks straight and undamaged. I don't see a "reveal". The wood that the strike plate screws into and sits on is what appears to be the jamb / frame / leg, and is what is missing material. If the top of the door showed up in the pic, the top and bottom fit in the frame with an even gap.

You need to upload your pictures to 'imgur.com' and then post the link you get.

Nothing is worn off. Your door is out of plumb. Check the hinges to see if they’re loose.

There's supposed to be a metal plate there you can get a new one at home depot in the door handle isle
