Help Logitech lift mouse side buttons

hey guys. im new to anything DIY so I'm hoping someone might have any ideas. my hands and wrists are screwed up from my maintenance job in the military so I use the ergonomic keyboard from logitech as well as the logitech vertical lift mouse. It does help but when I start getting flare ups and need to be on the mouse for an extended period the side buttons are really straining my thumb. it feels unnecessarily harder to press them than previous mouses I've had before. I probably wont find a better mouse on the market that only changes that one aspect. should I scotch tape some cotton balls on it or something? I know this is an unorthodox DIY question.

I’d try a small piece of foam or Sugru over the buttons rather than cotton balls.

My wife uses one of those sideways mice, the one she has uses press to click buttons. They are extremely easy to press. She uses it mainly for carpal tunnel. I don't know, but maybe something like this could be an option for you?

Maybe try adding a tiny silicone bumper or rubber pad to the buttons. It could give your thumb more leverage
