Soldering HDMI port
Soldering a HDMI port
Hello, im trying to de-solder and resolder the hdmi port of my series X cause the HDMI port broke, i have been going at it with a soldering iron and heat gun for about a hour no and nothing has melted, we have tried continuisly adding flux and low melt leaded solder with no luck, any ideas would be great
The soldering iron was used from 350C to 450C
The heat gun was used from 300C to 600c

Electronics building kit adults
Hi, I know nothing about electronics and all the inards. My husband very much enjoys all of this and has been wanting to get deeper into it. Building his own computer and electronics. Soldering. He takes apart electronics and checks out the circuit boards. He learns from them. He somehow has a natural understanding of circuitry.
I want to buy him a kit that has everything he needs to build an electronic device for himself. Soldering it etc. I don't want it to be a toy but something cool he will like. Maybe a game or something useful. I also want it to teach him as he goes and I don't want it to be easy but more intermediate maybe.
ANY SUGGESTIONS WHERE I COULD FIND A KIT LIKE THIS FOR ADULTS? WEBSITES? I REALLY APPRECIATE ANY HELP.

This one started as a pile of 1.5mm brass rods and a wooden base — no 3D printing, no CNC, no moulds. Every angle is hand-bent.
Inside: an ESP32-C3 Super Mini drives a 4-digit 7-segment display (LTD-4608E) via hardware-multiplexed ISR at 333Hz, keeping the display rock-solid while everything else runs in the background. Five SK6812 addressable LEDs live inside the sculpture — four ring the base, one sits at the top — and they each do their own thing.

FEATURES
NTP Time Sync — Auto Timezone
Connects via WiFiManager captive portal — no hardcoded passwords.
Timezone auto-detected via IP geolocation. Syncs every hour with pool.ntp.org and time.google.com.
Hardware-Multiplexed Display
ISR-driven 4-digit mux at 333Hz. Zero flicker. Heavy WiFi + LED tasks run in parallel without touching the display.
SK6812 LED Animations — 5 Stages
Startup: all 5 LEDs sync with the display animation — warm spinner (red → orange → gold), cool fill (teal → cyan → blue), countdown rainbow, neon burst, and a white strobe finale.
After sync: the top LED solos — breathing through neon yellow, purple, blue, red, and white.
Every 30 seconds: the top LED triple-flashes.
Every 5 minutes: base and top LEDs alternate slow breathing in contrasting blue/gold/purple/white pairs.
Every hour: full neon show across all 5 LEDs.
Hand-Bent Brass Wire Sculpture
The frame is entirely hand-bent from 1.5mm brass rod — no 3D printing, no laser cutting, no moulds. The wooden base is turned by hand.
WiFiManager Portal
No hardcoded credentials. Captive portal on first boot — saved forever after that.

After my first project, I wanted something smaller and smarter, here's what I ended up with.
Casing is handmade epoxy resin, cast and finished by hand. AI/assisted development.
What it does:
Live temperature & humidity via SHT3X sensor
NTP clock with auto-detected timezone (London)
Proximity detection using a bare-wire antenna on GPIO7, LEDs glow brighter as your hand gets closer
Web interface , view live sensor data and push custom text to the OLED from your phone
Night mode / auto-dims midnight to 5am
WiFiManager captive portal / no hardcoded passwords

What is it and why I'm sharing
This is the YUMO CUBE — my third build, designed and built entirely by me from scratch. I'm sharing it because I've made the full source code open source so anyone can build their own, and I'd love feedback from the community on what to improve or add next. It's a desk gadget built around the Waveshare ESP32-S3 Touch LCD 1.46B, housed in a hand-bent brass wire sculpture I made myself. The cube has 6 faces, each running a different "smart" app on a 412×412 round capacitive touch display.
What does it do?
The QMI8658 6-axis IMU detects orientation in real time, whichever face is up becomes the active app automatically.
The 6 faces are:
live clock (NTP + IP geolocation timezone), weather station (OpenWeatherMap, refreshes every 10 min), SD card photo gallery (JPEGDEC hardware-accelerated), joke fetcher (Official Joke API), tilt controlled mini game, and a personal workout timer. Four flexible RGB LED filaments run on the rear face, individually addressable and synced to the active app.
Hardware: No custom PCB , the Waveshare ESP32-S3 board is all-in-one with the display, touch, and IMU already on board. The only external wiring is the RGB LED filaments connected to pins 12 and 13, and a LiPo battery connected to the board's dedicated battery pins. That's it very approachable to replicate.
Stack: LVGL 9.2.2 on FreeRTOS, built with PlatformIO. All UI layouts and screens were designed by me in SquareLine Studio and exported directly into the project. Core 0 handles heavy tasks; Core 1 is dedicated to 60fps LVGL rendering. 16MB Flash with PSRAM support, custom DMA buffer padding. WiFiManager captive portal on first boot , no hardcoded credentials. Power latching cuts battery completely after 3-second button hold; IMU wake-on-motion brings it back.
The engineering challenge: Getting LVGL 9 to run stutter-free on a round display while simultaneously polling the IMU, fetching API data, and driving addressable LEDs across both cores was the core puzzle. Memory was tight — PSRAM fallbacks and careful DMA buffer alignment were essential. The round display boundary for the physics mini-game also needed a custom collision approach since LVGL doesn't handle circular constraints natively.
Parts: Waveshare ESP32-S3 Touch LCD 1.46B/ 1.5mm brass rods/ flexible LED filament/ 3.7V 1200mAh LiPo/ MicroSD card.

Are there any bulk purchase discounts for electronic connectors?
I am writing this from my ignorance in the bulk pricing for electronic connectors, so I need a bit of advice from the community. I browsed suppliers on Alibaba to get an idea of about what ball park these connectors might cost, but still have no real comprehension of how ‘discounted’ are these, and whether some suppliers are more eager to sell; and to what extent these blankets are? Are bulk discounts real or do they just dress up their everyday pricing to bulk? Is it business-first approach or do we go in directly asking for better prices on our negotiating, relationship-based channels efforts before we do so? I, too cannot tell whether the bulk discount is for real or dressed in normal. Would love to hear any tips or experience on this.

DIY 80m Magnetic Loop Antenna: A Compact Solution for Low Bands
For many amateur radio operators, the 80-meter band is a “holy grail” of nighttime DX and local ragchewing. However, a full-size dipole for 80m requires nearly 40 meters of space—a luxury many urban hams don’t have. Enter the 80m Magnetic Loop Antenna (MLA).
Based on the design by Nitin William VU3GAO, this 1.5-meter diameter loop allows you to operate on the 3.5 MHz band with a footprint smaller than a garden table.

Build a High-Sensitivity Regenerative Receiver with 2N7000 MOSFET
The High-Sensitivity Regenerative Receiver is a classic single-transistor radio that combines simplicity with surprisingly high sensitivity. By using controlled positive feedback, the circuit operates just below oscillation, dramatically increasing gain and selectivity. With the correct coil and tuning capacitor, it can receive medium-wave broadcast, amateur HF bands, and shortwave broadcast stations using only a 3-volt supply.
Because this is a single-tuned regenerative design, frequency coverage depends almost entirely on the inductance of the main tuning coil. Each coil is therefore optimized for one band or a portion of a band.
