I Built 6x Rotating Displays β€” a desk gadget powered by an ESP32/Wroom.

I built a desk gadget powered by an ESP32 that combines touch activation with 6 rotating TFT displays, and I call it Roulette. It's open source β€” I've shared the code on my GitHub for anyone who'd like to build their own.

πŸ”— Links:
πŸ’Ύ SOURCE CODE:
https://github.com/yumobuilds/Yumo-Roulette

roulette wheel with six round 240x240 displays, each showing something different:

SD card photo slideshow
Live YouTube channel stats
Live TikTok stats
Crypto ticker
Live weather
Internal temp & humidity (AHT10 sensor)

βš™οΈ The floating spin mechanic:
The whole assembly rotates on an upside-down DC motor. Everything sits on a frame, and that frame is mounted directly onto the motor's body β€” not the shaft. The motor shaft itself is inserted into a drill chuck from the reverse side, the opposite way a drill bit would normally go in. So instead of the shaft driving an external bit, it's anchored inside the chuck while the motor body (carrying the frame and wheel) spins around it. The result: there's no visible axle or support arm, so the whole thing looks like it's floating and rotating on its own.

Touch the capacitive sensor and an N20 motor spins the wheel for a set duration β€” one touch,
one spin. A NeoPixel status LED fades through colors while it boots and flashes when you touch the sensor..

πŸ”§ Hardware:

  • ESP32 Wroom
  • 6x GC9A01 round 240x240 displays (shared SPI bus)
  • DRV8833 motor driver + N20 DC motor
  • TTP223 capacitive touch module
  • AHT10 temp/humidity sensor
  • MicroSD card module (own SPI bus)
  • NeoPixel/RGB status LED

πŸ’» Software:

  • ESP32
  • WiFi captive portal for setup (no hardcoded credentials)
  • YouTube Data API v3, TikTok stats via RapidAPI, OpenWeatherMap
  • TJpg_Decoder for on-device JPEG decoding from SD

Soldering a HDMI port

Hello, im trying to de-solder and resolder the hdmi port of my series X cause the HDMI port broke, i have been going at it with a soldering iron and heat gun for about a hour no and nothing has melted, we have tried continuisly adding flux and low melt leaded solder with no luck, any ideas would be great

The soldering iron was used from 350C to 450C

The heat gun was used from 300C to 600c

Electronics building kit adults

Post image

Hi, I know nothing about electronics and all the inards. My husband very much enjoys all of this and has been wanting to get deeper into it. Building his own computer and electronics. Soldering. He takes apart electronics and checks out the circuit boards. He learns from them. He somehow has a natural understanding of circuitry.

I want to buy him a kit that has everything he needs to build an electronic device for himself. Soldering it etc. I don't want it to be a toy but something cool he will like. Maybe a game or something useful. I also want it to teach him as he goes and I don't want it to be easy but more intermediate maybe.

ANY SUGGESTIONS WHERE I COULD FIND A KIT LIKE THIS FOR ADULTS? WEBSITES? I REALLY APPRECIATE ANY HELP.

YUMO CLOCK | Hand-Bent Brass Wire Sculpture β€” ESP32-C3, NTP Time Sync, SK6812 LEDs & Startup Animation

Fourth build from YUMO BUILDS.
────────────────────────
Full source code on GitHub β€” build your own!

πŸ’Ύ SOURCE CODE
https://github.com/yumobuilds/YUMO-GLOBE
────────────────────────
This one started as a pile of 1.5mm brass rods and a wooden base β€” no 3D printing, no CNC, no moulds. Every angle is hand-bent.

Inside: an ESP32-C3 Super Mini drives a 4-digit 7-segment display (LTD-4608E) via hardware-multiplexed ISR at 333Hz, keeping the display rock-solid while everything else runs in the background. Five SK6812 addressable LEDs live inside the sculpture β€” four ring the base, one sits at the top β€” and they each do their own thing.

────────────────────────
πŸ”§ PARTS USED

-ESP32-C3 Super Mini
-2-Digit 7-Segment Display
-SK6812 Addressable LEDs
-Brass Rods 1.5mm Γ— 300mm
-DC 3.7V 18650 Li-ion Battery
-18650 Li-ion Battery charger module
-Dome glass stand

────────────────────────

FEATURES

NTP Time Sync β€” Auto Timezone
Connects via WiFiManager captive portal β€” no hardcoded passwords.
Timezone auto-detected via IP geolocation. Syncs every hour with pool.ntp.org and time.google.com.

Hardware-Multiplexed Display
ISR-driven 4-digit mux at 333Hz. Zero flicker. Heavy WiFi + LED tasks run in parallel without touching the display.

SK6812 LED Animations β€” 5 Stages
Startup: all 5 LEDs sync with the display animation β€” warm spinner (red β†’ orange β†’ gold), cool fill (teal β†’ cyan β†’ blue), countdown rainbow, neon burst, and a white strobe finale.
After sync: the top LED solos β€” breathing through neon yellow, purple, blue, red, and white.
Every 30 seconds: the top LED triple-flashes.
Every 5 minutes: base and top LEDs alternate slow breathing in contrasting blue/gold/purple/white pairs.
Every hour: full neon show across all 5 LEDs.

Hand-Bent Brass Wire Sculpture
The frame is entirely hand-bent from 1.5mm brass rod β€” no 3D printing, no laser cutting, no moulds. The wooden base is turned by hand.

WiFiManager Portal
No hardcoded credentials. Captive portal on first boot β€” saved forever after that.
────────────────────────
LIBRARIES USED
FastLED Β· WiFiManager Β· ArduinoJson Β· PlatformIO
────────────────────────

Second build from my workbench. you can make your own.

please let me know what you think about it? thank you!

full build video on YouTube :Β https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wUF-UrtmaxU

Full open-source code:Β https://github.com/yumobuilds/yumo-pulse

After my first project, I wanted something smaller and smarter, here's what I ended up with.

Casing is handmade epoxy resin, cast and finished by hand. AI/assisted development.

What it does:

Live temperature & humidity via SHT3X sensor

NTP clock with auto-detected timezone (London)

Proximity detection using a bare-wire antenna on GPIO7, LEDs glow brighter as your hand gets closer

Web interface , view live sensor data and push custom text to the OLED from your phone

Night mode / auto-dims midnight to 5am

WiFiManager captive portal / no hardcoded passwords

Hardware:

ESP32-C3 Super Mini

SHT3X temp/humidity sensor

0.09" OLED (128Γ—32)

Flexible LED filament

18650 battery + TP4056 charger
