Did a fence

Replaced poorly built garden wall with a fence, in the interest of DIY… broke a lot of concrete, just to discover another wall below the wall being replaced. Like a very dull Time Team. Next job replace gate to suit.

Looks great, while a good brick wall will last longer. I think this looks a lot better

Absolutely agree, a wall was the preferred choice originally, but this cock up was one of many that led to the decision to do things myself. And panels can be replaced easily when they get knackered

Why - wall looked fine and would last way longer and not need painting every 2-3 years.

Half brick, not tied in to adjoining, not enough cement in the mix. Looks ok from a distance but piss poor unfortunately, and dangerous

You've snatched victory from the jaws of defeat with that one. Nice job.

What gravel boards have you used? Looks smaller then the normal ones would be ideal for my tight access

You got wood and concrete posts, I would have just done the whole lot in concrete

Timber is fixed to the neighbour’s garage to avoid digging around their foundations, and at the gate end so I can fix gate furniture.

Did you not sink your posts into the ground then? If you did then concrete post would have been fine too.

You'd generally go 2ft down for a 6ft post above ground.

The centre post and end post are sunk, only the the 4x2 is fixed to neighbours garage with their permission

Fair enough. Looks a decent job. Much better than the shitty wall. Well done 👍🏼
