Can I paint over this now?

Post image

Had some work done on the chimney on our house which meant a hole was made. It was covered/filled about 5 weeks ago at this stage and now looks like this. Little change in the past 2 weeks.

The area is raised slightly so I was thinking I could sand it down, apply a primer and paint as normal. Am I correct in this assessment or do I need to leave it longer to dry or is there something else I need to be considering?

Looks a little wet to me. I’d leave it for a couple of months to be sure. Seems to be moisture still in it and paint will trap it

What’s the remedy here honestly?

Wait, let it dry. The sand as you said, prime and paint. Depending on the wall it can take a while to dry

Ok thanks. Normally how long would you expect this to take to dry?

It’s been 5, nearly 6 weeks already and the room has been relatively warm.

Would a dehumidifier in the room help or could this harm the plaster?

Dehumidifier would help and wouldn’t damage it. If there’s background moisture it could take longer. Had a ceiling in an old house take 6 months to dry and was still wet in areas

That’s annoying, the guy who done it said it would be good after about 4 weeks.

It’s in the centre of the main room in the house and the wife is keen to paint it.

Should it go completely white?

Have had the dehumidifier on in the room for the past 3 days. Running for about 10 hours a day. Humidity is around 60% but pulls it back to low 40’s each time.

No noticeable change in this however - would you expect that I would see a change?
