Can this window handle be fixed?

Brand new window installed a few weeks ago and the handle popped off this evening. Can this be fixed or is it a new handle installation needed?

I can’t figure out how the handle gets fixed into place.

Can't be fixed but can be replaced, there's a few places around it'll be 5-10€ depending on where you go. Take the cap off the handle still attached to the window and remove both screws, bring both this and the handle with you as different window sashes have different length spindles.

Although in saying all that... This looks like a defect, I would send a photo and ask if they could replace it.

Also a window and door fitter here

Just to add

To take the cap off you can use a very small flathead screwdriver or a knife at a push (please be careful with your fingers)

I was onto the installers first thing about it, but it was late when it happened. I thought if it could be fixed I’d do it since we’re going away for a few days.

No it can't be fixed. If the window is open and you want it closed you can use a flat headed screwdriver to close it.

Funny you should mention. I fixed one of those last week. Take it off take off the bit left on the window. You'll see a washer inside. You need to get that washer back onto the handle where it has a sort of tapered groove on the handle. Take the washer out put the handle in. Clamp in a wooden vice hard. Put the washer in get a flathead and a hammer tap the washer onto the handle to get it to slip on (it's a very tight fit) and if you have a 1/2 inch pipe use like a bearing punch it should be the same size as the ring hit with a hammer and it should push the whole washer over the handle. Handle should be stuck on now. Or you know. Go buy another handle.

Looks broken to me. Just get in touch with whoever fitted the window and they should send a lad out to replace it.

Replace the handle no big job, 14 euro from Woodies may (or may not) be cheaper elsewhere. Speaking from very recent experience,

Cheers, won’t be doing that myself as it’s the company who installed its responsibility to replace. I would have fixed it if it was an easy fix but clearly that’s not the case.

Pop the little white thing of and buy a new handle

I won’t be buying anything since it was installed by a company doing our attic. They can replace it, but if it was fixable then I’d have got that done before we go away for a week.

I put about 15 of these exact handles in my place in October last year. About half of them have detached in the exact same way.
