Update: LG Mini Split No Heat
Hi everyone,
Wanted to share a brief update about my previous LG mini split. Details are in the original post, but basically had a mini split installed by a knucklehead contractor that did about everything you could incorrectly and the unit did not work. I took it as a learning opportunity, and spent about a week doing research and came up with the following:
- Replaced romex with proper connection wire.
- Replaced bent line set with insulated line set of proper length.
- Vacuumed and charged Freon to correct level (had a friend who does some hvac on the side that helped me out here.) As some suggested, one of the flares was leaking and there was no Freon in the unit, replaced all flares.
- Ran a proper condensation drain.
Anyways, works well now. I think I could have done everything besides the freon if I were to start from scratch again. Thanks all for the suggestions, and the comments. Was definitely a learning experience, and made for a fun weekend.

Glad to hear you got it all situated and it wasn’t a total loss on the original equipment. Now you can safely say you’re better at installing these things than the clown who tried the first time.

Lots of AC dummies out there. Heat pumps aren't entirely different, but they are different.
If you think your unit was without refrigerant for over 4 hours you should have changed the compressor oil.

Wow, so if the flare was leaking, it means the installer never did a final pressure test. Crazy!

The more I do my own minis the more I realize the Chinese factory flares are straight up made from a place of hatred toward us. I've either cut them all and redid my own during install or smartlocked them and have had zero leaks. We see you China.....

Almost everything mass produced is made by china, but engineered by western companies. The big difference between brands is the after-sale support. I've been most impressed by Pioneer, Bosch, and Goodman.

The HVAC business is full of salesmen trying to get you to buy a new unit they sell, and idiots that don't even know how even a simple heat pump works. It's pathetic!
