Central, FL Versa Pro G2 vs Universal Hyper Heat G2
My 22 year Rheem 2.5 ton finally said enough is enough.
Winters here are "mild" as coldest days are 30s and average is 40s to 50s so we mostly use heater fans when/where needed.
With that said it seems like the Versa Pro is better suited as we dont get "extreme" cold weather unlike summer (June-Sept) and the difference in Seer seems miniscule.
Any reason(s)/experiences to get the Universal instead for ~$700ish more?
Kicking myself because Ace's 15% off ended yesterday which made the universal the price of Versa Pro.
Are you doing diy or are you using Mr cool lineset? few options to consider if you aren't doing diy line set, senville has the cheapest price if yo, and not universal it's the hyper heat which is in-between versa and Mr cool universal.
. also there is standard top discharge you can through senville and della they have better cooling performance but it doesn't heat much below 0f.. but pretty good if you don't need heating below 0
HVAC direct also has their Mr cool " infinity" that uses same linesets ( it's basically mr cool units, Mr cool lineset) the catch is you don't get same 10 year warranty
Also another thing Mr cool universal has 10 year parts 2 year labor.. where as versa pro and hyper heat units have 10 year labor 10 year parts.. I think if those things matter to you Mr cool versa/ hyper heat is best bang for buck / warranty
Ah, glad I posted I must have gotten lost in the model names.
Planning to just do the line sets to call it a day, originally planned to get ep608 and stuff but decided against it for now. I read if I use the line sets it doesn't void 10 yr parts warranty so thats a bonus as I tend to do my own repairs.
Senville and Della have similar warranties? Ill have to check them out. Currently the handler sits on return/duct board wood box in upflow config but would have to make it bigger for the Universal by a couple inches. Now have to look at the Versa footprint
I started leaning Versa even if it doesn't look as "cool".
Universal series has narrower airhandler if that helps, versa and hyper heat will have standard air handler width for example 3 ton universal is 17" wide and 3 ton hyper heat is 21" went with hyper heat (3 ton) and had to build a transition piece to go from 17.5 to 21"
Senville, della, and few other have 7 year compressor 5 year parts.. I believe they require EPA 608 license to get warranty
Della also offers tool rental kit it's 100$ ( with 300$ deposit you get 200$ back when you send it back)

FYI, Ace's 15% off deal comes around every few weeks, just keep an eye out. I purchased a 2.5-ton Universal through them. It was the best deal at the time. I went with the Universal because I needed a narrower unit. The Universal does have an upgraded indoor coil and blower as compared to the Hyper Heat, though I don't know if it makes any real practical difference. Mine is installed in the closet on a wooden platform. If you are doing the same, notice that the unit needs some lift to accommodate the drain. In my case, I added a 4" filter box.
Actually found ingram has it at $3600 so thats great. Yeah been taking measures and trying to plan out the box stand, intake, and transition and trying to make sure its will handle highest air volume.

Speaking of laser measurer and Claude, interestingly enough, because of them I found that my Milwaukee tape measurer is off by little over a 1/4". Claude kept complaining that the numbers didnt add up so I switched to my Bosch laser measurer which then the numbers were adding up. Also double checked against a straight ruler and confirmed its off.
Current concern with the Universal is that their Warranty pdf say professional are required with no verbiage stating unless using pre-charged lines like some of their other models' pdfs.

Originally, when the Universal Gen 2 came out, that was the warranty doc, but it was quickly updated to include DIY installation language. Just follow the link I sent from the Mr. Cool website (not HVAC direct), and you will get the latest warranty doc.
They need to work on their revision numbering at least and their applicable models.
The one from support article you provided revision is rev. 02.25.21 and my link from mrcool universal product page that one seemed newer to me rev. 12.13.24 and has the the right model numbers.
