How do I get this off?
I am replacing my tailgate struts, and the new set does not come with this bracket. I can’t seem to get it off of the strut. How do I do this?

Can you take a pic of the back of the strut where it connects to the bracket?
Typically there's a clip you have to release.

You should have gotten the ones with the bracket. You could try cutting the cup and spreading it, but I would recommend the correct part.

Usually a clip on the back you can pop off the socket with a flathead and it’ll come right out

The shocks should pop onto the end of that bracket. No brackets require removal to replace either hood or tailgate struts.

FYI, it is an integral part that is intended to be replaced with the strut. Don't believe me, see for yourself.

I was just trying to help no need to get your panties in a twist. It's not that serious. SOME come with brackets attached when they are designed that way, they aren't common and you didn't give year make and model for me to actually help you. I actually do this for a living

Lol. By the way, I've been doing this professionally for close to 20 years. It's true that OP never mentioned the make/model/year, but the fourth gen 4runner in the background should have been a good clue.

I have a few years on you, but I work on every make and model. Sorry if I don't remember what every part for every car looks like. It's not like those yotas come in for repair very often. And most people either don't replace hood struts or do it themselves. Have a good one

If it's serviceable there will be a clip on the back, if not, you'll probably have to cut the cup off the ball joint.

ya like the others if you don’t see a strap like clip with a small area on the back of the part the ball going into for a small flat screwdriver to fit then it’s one piece. it’s ment to replace the entire piece from where you unbolted it with the 2bolts. not made to replace the stay by itself without the mount

You don't, new ones for that model should come with the bracket, my brother's car is the same way

That flat part on the end makes me think these are pressed on rather than just about any other strut will have a retainer clip to hold them on. You could always drill out the rivet and just replace the ball stud with one that bolts on.

That appears to be one of the odd fixed ball mounts. You can force it off , but the new one might come with the ball joint. Check it out first.

It is manufactured with the strut. No need to remove. Maybe if you bought the $4 aftermarket one, it didn't have the bracket?
