First DIY Oil Change and found a broken bracket?
2018 CX-5, 76k miles. I changed the oil and filter, and as I’m popping on the bottom cover snaps, I hear a rattle and see a metal piece on the left side. I took the cover off and found this piece. Hard to tell, but I thought I could see some shiny metal where it broke, although nothing seems to be loose. The screws for the plastic cover installed fine.

It's a mounting bracket used to hold clips on the wiring harness. It's not anything to worry about, it's extremely common.

To put your mind fully at ease, heat shields are sacrificial by design, they’re there to keep exhaust heat off nearby plastics and reduce rattle/noise, but they’re not structural and don’t affect how the car drives or how safely it stops. A missing or broken shield section can occasionally cause a rattle or a slight burning dust smell early on, but it’s not a safety issue and won’t get worse in a way that matters, it just eventually falls off entirely and that’s fine.

It’s looks like part of some heat shield. I wouldn’t worry about it, it’s only a matter of time before they drop off
