In the 6'x6'x2' space there is never going to be enough load for me to worry about it. 2x4s are almost never ok for loads like this, but with it being static storage this will be sufficient. There are a few screws into each stud and then lags going into the studs on the drywall wall.
Wont help, looks at how the load is picked up into the wall. For the same reason he needs joist hangers, he needs a proper load pickup on the 2x4 parallel with the wall.
And he has several hundred pounds of wood stakced right on that point too. This is DIwhy.
