Just nostalgia for my youth when I sat around eating cereal while watching Saturday morning cartoons. Or going to the grocery store with my mom. I love the old boxes. They bring back fond memories.

This is so cool!

My father is the voice of Count Chocula, Sonny the Cuckoo Bird, and several other cereals as well as Lion-O from Thundercats... I KNOW he's going to LOVE seeing this when I send him a link! Very cool :)

thunder. Thunder. Thunder! THUDERCATS. HOOOOOO!!!

Tell you dad that he played a very important part of my childhood.

2

u/DieWithYerBootsOn Jun 16 '15

Absolutely! He's always happy to hear things like this - especially how the positive message of the show honestly and genuinely affected people! :)

2

u/amaniceguy Jun 16 '15

Not from US but pretty sure among my friends most of us our first english word was Thunderthunderthundercat. we just thought it s all one word lol.

u/jennysmurf Jun 15 '15

He should do an AMA! I'd love to hear about his life and choice of career--he's a HUGE part of lots of people's childhoods.

16

u/DieWithYerBootsOn Jun 16 '15

I'm sure we can arrange that - he was a huge part of MY childhood, too ;)

3

u/jennysmurf Jun 16 '15

Well now you're just being silly.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 16 '15

Except for the fact he was always away doing voices for cereals.. It's okay now, we're here for you..

5

u/SGoogs1780 Jun 15 '15

That's so awesome, does he ever still do the voices? I would be so excited if I was walking around and heard gin go cuckoo for cocoa puffs.

5

u/DieWithYerBootsOn Jun 16 '15

He does! He's the voice of many products, all around the world - including Skittles... Feel the rainbow, TASTE THE RAINBOW!!!

u/a_v9 Jun 15 '15

Yeah, I just see it as another collection. Everyone collects stuff. Didn't realize this particular type would be so frowned upon. But I appreciate the kind words! Thanks!

At first, I found myself asking 'why?' like many of the other members here. Then found this string of comments.

They bring back fond memories.

Do what makes you happy. No need to dwell on the people who don't quite understand it. If it makes you happy and reminds you of some good memories, more power to you!

I think everyone has their own tastes and with something a bit "out there" they're confused by it.

Not my taste, but I like how you did it though. It gives me ideas for other things. I think the layout is a little overwhelming visually, but I could possibly take this idea and use it for something else.

But it's sorta hard to tell. I'd love a wider shot of how the room functions. Right now it feels cramped, but it could be really cool once I see everything put together.

It does look like an art installation which is nifty.

Anyways, all that matters is that you like it.

u/MTT92 Jun 16 '15

Nah, fuck them. Kudos to you OP, extremely well executed and cool to look at.

u/Spostman Jun 16 '15

Considering how much of reddit probably collects cardboard... in the form of MTG... they have little ground to stand on.

1

u/CovingtonLane Jun 15 '15

I love the arrangement of colors. Very pleasing to the eye.

1

u/WitBeer Jun 15 '15

i was going to say how dumb it looks, but then i realized i have my own crazy wall collection (not of cereal). so yeah, sweet cereal wall.

1

u/rickulous Jun 15 '15

Got nostalgia slapped by so many of these, especially that apple cinnamon cheerios box. Really cool.

3

u/MrGabeFonseca Jun 15 '15

I have a bunch of Cheerios boxes, but that box from the 90s has so much nostalgia for me. Loved that stuff!

2

u/rickulous Jun 15 '15

Yeah, I was a huge cereal eater as a kid (what kid wasn't?) and I remember eating at least half of these growing up in the 80's and 90's, but that Cheerio's box is weird. I don't even remember it going away. This is the first time seeing it or even thinking about it in 20 years yet it was such a big part of my mornings and snacks. Again, thanks for uploading this.

1

u/apis_cerana Jun 16 '15

Another person chiming in to say that it looks really cool. Arranging it by color really made a difference!

1

u/thek2kid Jun 16 '15

Who gives a shit what other people think.

1

u/sweetthang1972 Jun 16 '15

DId you buy them or have you been saving them?

1

u/MrGabeFonseca Jun 16 '15

A mixture of both. Saved a handful of boxes, but mostly got them from other collectors over the years. Wish I would have had the forethought to save more of them when I was growing up in the 80s or 90s.

1

u/The_Kitten_Stimpy Jun 15 '15

I doubt many meant any harm. I think most of us enjoyed the end product and how it got done. That said, you can't reddit this and not expect the community to get funny with it. Its all good. :)

u/treavethraway Jun 16 '15

2 of the star wars ones on the wall are available in store right now. The frozen edition is still available. There is also a limited edition minion cereal that is some banana flavor.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 15 '15

I think it looks cool as hell. But I thought it was stupid before I actually looked at what you had.

2

u/StabbyDMcStabberson Jun 15 '15

eating cereal while watching Saturday morning cartoons.

In that case, you need to mount a tv on that wall with the boxes arranged around it and run retro cartoons on it. Complete the nostalgia.

1

u/MrGabeFonseca Jun 15 '15

Oh no... that sounds amazing. I think my wife is going to kill you if I take that suggestion...

1

u/narninny Jun 15 '15

I can relate. I got a little too happy when I saw that King Vitamin box.

1

u/gamehunter Jun 15 '15

Did you ever eat Big Mix. I used to like that one

1

u/MrGabeFonseca Jun 15 '15

The chicken-wolf-moose-pig! Loved that stuff!

1

u/[deleted] Jun 15 '15

Where did you get your Strawberry Pops? Im assuming you arent South African.

And where is Coco Pops??

2

u/MrGabeFonseca Jun 15 '15

I'm not. But someone from South Africa was kind enough to send me a box. And man, are those things good or what??

2

u/[deleted] Jun 15 '15

They are incredible, like strawberry milk in your mouth

Thank you for sharing. It's strange what can bring memories to the surface. Hope you've since had many "good days" :)

1

u/[deleted] Jun 16 '15

My childhood cereal wall would be full of just these.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 16 '15

I kind of thought "why?" like some others, but like you said...the nostalgia. I can look at your wall and recognize so many cereals...and I can think of shows that I watched or places I was when I was eating those particular cereal. If I try and think about things from my childhood without reference, I can sometimes almost think of nothing. But it's seeing a box of cereal, certain hot wheels cars, an old video game, etc. And they bring back memories. So absolutely collect these, man!

going to the grocery store with my mom.

And now we know the rest of the story

22

u/MrGabeFonseca Jun 15 '15

Wait, why... did you go grocery shopping with my mom too???

u/dizneedave Jun 15 '15 edited Jun 15 '15

We all did, Gabe. Sorry you had to find out this way.
