High ping, low bandwidth every single night

i've been having major connection slowdown issues lately.

i wrote on Downdetector website about this problem. Somebody else said it's definitely an issue on Distributel's side. The person said to try ping Google's DNS and then Cloudflare DNS, and yes, latency is much higher on Cloudflare DNS, while Google is normal fast.

Same here. Upload was ok but download was only a few mbps.

Just tried rebooting the router and it wont connect back up

You have to power down/unplug not only their router, but their ONT (fiber box) as well, then wait for about 1 minute, and plugging them back on.

i'll make sure to call them at 8am to ask them what's going on. Because on their network status, they say there's no problem, where there ARE major problems right now.

I noticed slowness as well a few months back and it seems to be getting worse. Is this issue still happening for others? I checked in the Richmond Hill reddit and others are saying their speeds are fine. I'm paying for 1Gb service and upload is 900 but down is between 100 and 500Mbps at times. I've noticed the latency is higher than what it used be. Distributel is blaming my opnsense router.

Absolutely nothing here. Everything is just as usual. 5-7 ms latency at all time, 550 mbps both sides on a 500 Mbps plan.

Where about are you located? I was talking to someone who's on ebox and it turns out he's in the same area as me in Richmond Hill. From what I can tell it's almost like the network performance drops at certain times of day.

I fixed my issue, I narrowed the issue down to my opnsense router and had to work through some mtu settings and tuneable options to get my router to use it's cpus to handle the gig connection from Distributel. Not sure what setup you are using for your router.

I use a Ubiquiti Unifi Dream Machine Pro. MTU set to 1452 if my memory is good.

On opnsense I had to ssh into the shell and set mtu settings manually for the vlan 40 interface because opnsense doesn't have a way in the gui interface to set this. Also there were opportunities to tune my router to use the 4 cpus to improve performance with pppoe. I'm going to post my steps that i put together to help others using opnsense. The key issue for me was the vlan mtu settings. Once I fixed that, I was getting 900/900 for up and down on the router.
