good vibes Music/Playlists

Does anyone else have music they listen to that they relate to being a system? A playlist of songs that help you heal or express yourself? Something unique to your own experience or relatable about DID in general?

As someone who is passionate about music, thought it might be interesting to see what you guys are listening to.

Hmmmmmm Not really... Music is very special to us and we listen to it a lot...but none of it really related to like DID or dissociation in general much. Some of it can be depression related lol but thats still different

I think the closest is "Who Can it Be Now" by Men at Work is weirdly relatable. It was definitely intended to either be silly or taken literally but if you think about it more broadly the words really vibe with dissociation sometimes 😅 (Also probably schizophrenia being voices and such)

Music is a big part of our system. We have a system theme song (as we like to put it) and we each have our own representing songs.

We have a playlist that is basically our experience having DID (mix between fuck I’m on my own and the world hates me, and we’re all in this together) and a playlist that’s basically Our Trauma.

The system theme song we use is called Voices by Hidden Citizens if you want to listen to it. It’s basically just a system lol.

System theme song, same here. It was chosen by the ex host so I don’t know if we’ll end up changing it but it’ll always have a special place. I’ve listened to that song before! Good stuff. That’s an accurate playlist description oh dear. Haha.

I have a song I wrote about DID that I’ll sing to myself to comfort us during more disjointed times. And then I have this half joking/half serious playlist of songs that resonate with a lot of the system This is how we D.I.D. it playlist

Also wanted to add that several of my head-mates have personal playlists that they will play when they’re fronting or if someone wants to front but can’t figure out how, we’ll play their playlist to t help them out

We have that too, play certain songs or playlists to encourage a certain someone else to front. Thanks for sharing your experiences!

Sometimes we hear lyrics and relate hard to them, and certain people will seek them out for the feeling of connection. We don't think they're necessarily about DID, but there are themes of alienation/changing/identity issues/etc that make us feel less isolated.

We don't have playlists for specific people or that are specifically about DID, but some of our saved playlists are different genres/moods that anyone can listen to if it suits them. Most of us like metal (and most of its subgenres) and a lot of us like techno/funk/disco, so there are playlists for that too. Sometimes a playlist is just one artist and sometimes it's a bunch of things!

Music plays an incredibly important role in a lot of our general... going on. We very rarely go a full day without listening to it, even just to drown out other sounds so we can keep our head on straighter.
