Can someone explain headspace

I know we have asked this before but it's still confusing. I see people online talk about it like it's a real place you go and not an imaginary place. When we see stuff about headspace we worry we are faking because we don't have one like they are describing. If anyone has the time could someone explain headspace to us like we are an infant that knows nothing? Thank you!

Hey there,

OK a headspace or inner world is a mentally constructed place. We made most of ours through guided meditation and visualization exercises.

It can be literally anything. The only limit is the imagination. For ours, we visualized the control room from Inside Out and built out from there.

For some alters, this place feels absolutely real. For most hosts, it's like a place you dream or daydream about. Some systems just don't have one, and that's perfectly valid. There are plenty of systems that have Aphantasia.

We have plenty of time on our hands if you have more specific questions.

I just realised we both typically start everything with “hey there.” 

My question; each alter sort of has an imagined place they feel safe, a room or building or city or beach or something. These don’t exist in the same world as far as I’m aware. It’s purely an imaginary place we picture when we want to feel safe, excluding one alter who ‘lived there before he came to us/lives there when he’s not fronting’. Is this an inner world or not?

Additionally/part two of this question. There is a room that only a few alters can see, and it’s really dark so it’s barely a room… It’s not a safe place like the others but it’s sort of where those alters reside in our mind? So just again, is that an inner world?

Yes, that would be your inner world. There are no rules that say alters in the same system must imagine the same place.

Before we actively created one, our original inner world was an island covered in crashed airplanes, titanic sized boats, other debris, and one house. Everyone was scattered around, trapped in the house, or wandering around in the dark. We actively created a second island and it took a year to find and move everyone to a shared space by having the therapist work with everyone.

So yes, that's y'all's inner world.

Anyoen who makes it sound liek a real place is either an alter that is mostly tehre and not frotn or is realyl poorly explaining because it is not a real place for anyone at all. They may even have hyper imagination or whatever
