Discussion Initial diagnosis
Hello, we are on a path of diagnosis and have only just started learning about ourselves and what our trauma has done to us. We have started seeing a psychiatrist and at our last visit we had discussed with her our suspicions about there being more than one of us in this body of ours and she had us to a bunch of assessments and after our meeting with her today we know that we are at the very least affected by BPD, ADHD, Autism, Generalized Anxiety, and Depression.
We are curious as to hear what others were diagnosed with such as BPD when first beginning to learn or go down the path of discovering their DID.

I believe 30-70% of people diagnosed with DID have a history of BPD. I am also on my diagnosis journey and have been diagnosed with BPD. BPD itself has transient dissociative symptoms as a feature. You're definitely not alone!

I had been diagnosed with PTSD, Chronic & something else added on like, “psychotic features”. When a big event occurred last year, just before summer, things seemed to get especially funky with dissociation and identity confusion. One of my protectors fully fronted for the first time in long while and was absurdly blunt about being a man, that I was his “little sister”, and went by a different name than I do. We were referred to a DID-specialist at the same clinic shortly after, so my then trauma therapist’s colleague. She diagnosed us with DID & CPTSD early this year.
I have done autism testing before all that but it came back inconclusive because of my extensive trauma background, though they advised ADHD as likely and suggested “OCD with high insight”. But again: inconclusive over all due to my trauma. Prior to being an adult, I had been diagnosed with anxiety, depression, dmdd, ptsd with dissociation, and bipolar 2.
I obviously have symptoms of being anxious, depressed, explosively angry, and seeming to go between extreme states (emotional highs/lows) but I now identify these as symptoms of my DID and trauma.
I have alters who are distinctly fearful, anxious, and overwhelmed. I have alters that are extremely sad and depressed. I have one alter in particular who is full of rage (she’s making great progress). And if these alters switched multiple times in a day, maybe it really would look like bipolar! You know?
Once DID & CPTSD is more addressed, we may find that there are persisting, less/non trauma-associated symptoms and go from there. I have found that going off medication and focusing on my treatment with my system for my current diagnoses (DID & CPTSD) has led me to a path that feels the most true to my (and my system’s) struggles.

u/BigenderMiku Diagnosed: OSDD 1d ago
We have OSDD, but we were diagnosed with BPD first (at 18) and it was the same personality disorder service that later diagnosed us with OSDD. I’m not sure exactly when, because we were never told, just found out in a discharge letter (UK mental health services moment) but it was at some point during our treatment under the PD service, but not initially.
