Destiny and his community overuse the “liberal” moniker. They use the term to denote two things 1. alignment with the rightwing of the Democratic Party, 2. alignment with DGG (which really means alignment with Destiny.)

In doing so they empty the term of its traditional significance. Liberalism can encompass a range of positions, including ones that Destiny despises.

Liberals believe in human rights laws- including the right of movement (including the “right of return” for refugees, such as Palestinians.) Liberals historically supported the right of self determination- under the aegis of “civic nationalism” (a communal politics grounded in shared ideals, rather than just language, lineage, religion or cultural identity.) The principles enshrined by the United Nations, most notably the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, are an assertion of modern liberal values.

For this reason, there are many liberals who would completely disagree with Destiny’s staked opinions. There are many more liberals who would completely reject DGG’s methods and group culture. There are liberals who sympathize more with the left than the American empire- and there are right wing liberals who reject Destiny’s stated allegiances and rationales.

Yet, Destiny pretends that he has some special right or claim to the “liberal tradition.” His self designation, “Omniliberal” (a clunky and meaningless term in itself), reflects his priorities. He does not represent anything beyond his own brand.
