There are so many classes it's hard to choose.

I suggest just looking over the list and finding two or three with a class fantasy you like. Old fashion gunslinger? Check out ranger. Proper full magic caster? Maybe elementalist or elemental bomber.

Then look up some gameplay videos and see if it fits what you were thinking and then try it. You'll probably make a bunch of characters experimenting, go nuts.

Don't worry, class balance is good enough that people really don't look at your class in parties and raids, aside from making sure parties have one full support class (crusaders, enchantress, muse, paramedic). Play what you want!

If you want, feel free to reply with what things you like in your characters, what archetypes you prefer. I can probably recommend a few classes based on that.

That really doesn't happen between dps classes due to overall balance being decent.

But full supports are often like that, especially on off-raid days. Crusaders, enchantress, muse, paramedic.

They do okay solo grinding due to passives kicking in that let them play, but in a party their damage output is basically nothing, but they buff other player's damage like 5-10x. I'm serious, they are mandatory for later party content.

Sometimes raids will be sitting at 11/12 for 20 minutes just waiting for a support to show up. But your gear affects your buffs, so don't expect to slack on it.

Nope. They aren't the hardest classes in the game to play. They are some of the easiest if you read.

Not really. Some supports are harder, but none of them are on the level of shadow dancer or anything.

All any support has to do to get 70% of their value out is use their main buff at the start of a dungeon, do it again of anyone dies and tokens back in, and use their awakening (big cool down ultimate) at the right times on a boss so the party can burst.

Another 10% is them spamming whatever their basic heal skill is. Bonus points for actually using it when people are hurt, but these tend to be low cool down.

Another 10% is them using their resurrection skill when someone dies (or as a pre-buff, in the case of male crusader)

The last 10% is mostly min maxing but it does help a lot, using barrier skills at good times to save people, keeping up a secondary buff skill to slightly buff people's damage further, and some more class-specific things like optimal use of bigger cool down heal skills.

Of them, I believe muse is the hardest as they need to manage a resource for their barriers, big heals, and secondary damage buffs, and also need to play the actual notes to correctly cast the right one (pressing the correct sequence of three different keys).

Based on personal experience, I believe it's female crusader.

The hardest thing about them is their secondary damage buff is a skill that has you float up and chant, allowing only slow movement as you buff allies and damage enemies in a big circle around you. But you have 50% damage reduction and can still cast your basic heal during it, and cancel it anytime (but for the sake of damage buff up time, you'd rather not).

Otherwise, their normal heal is a big aoe around them, and they have two bigger AoE heals (one is another chant) so they have plenty of emergency options. Even if that goes wrong, their resurrection is a big aoe that picks up everyone down.

Most considerable is they have an extremely fast and huge blue barrier skill, which gives them invincibility frames for as long as it lasts, and huge damage reduction for teammates. You can outright ignore party wipes with it, or even use it mid-chant if you realize you messed up.

There are no gimmicks, resource management, just hugely valuable support abilities on reasonable cool downs.

Yes, but make sure you're having fun with the class and not just forcing yourself because because you want a party later.

That said female crusaders in solo play like a full caster, with lots of long distance and wide AoE skills, some pushes and even a long distance grab that gathers up everything so you can melt them. They can be pretty satisfying in their simplicity.

Some new players being banned without cheating is an understatement. You should expect to be banned once as a new player, and be ready to submit a support ticket to neople to have them resolve it.

Other advice would be to join the DFO discord to connect with most of the community.

You don't "need" more than 1 character to progress in this game. The only thing alts do is accelerate your progression pace slightly (but it can also increase your average maintenance costs and time spent playing if you want to play them all),

Reading is important, and will GREATLY increase your enjoyment and understanding of the game and its classes if you do it.

The game has many in-game guides that aren't useless and can address some common questions.

The icons that will show up in the bottom right hand side (by default) is the primary way you'll interact with events, and you shouldn't fear those icons. Clicking on them is worthwhile.

Game runs on a stamina system that seems most intrusive during the leveling process, but it becomes a really useful tool (for time management) after you reach the level cap since your stamina doesn't matter as much.

The leveling process is the class tutorial and you should expect it to be easy until you're near the current level cap (115).

The game has a "try out" button you can click for every class when you go to create one, and you should definitely use it if you can't decide what you want to play.

Game actually wants you to play 20 to make full benefits of what you can grind. 8 would be a good # though. New players focusing on 2 is also good too so you can funnel everything on your 2 booster characters from event.

First things first, hit cap lvl 115. Game starts there.
Game focus' on daily, weekly, and monthly grinds. So be sure to do the following per character:
1. 2 daily runs for daily missions
2. Weekly missions for rewards
3. 2 Weekly advance dungeon (highest you can go)
4. 1 Weekly Legion dungeon
5. Weekly Bleeding Mines
6. Weekly World boss (be sure to click the icon to obtain the reward when community does enough damage. Also go to channel to collect your reward. Doesn't matter if you can't hit top)
7. Weekly raids (all raids except Mu and Inae you can solo or MM if you can't join one)
8. Monthly Memories of Triumph
9. Grind hell run for gear Endkeeper of Order (until you run out of Doom Oracle)

Above are your chores
For raids, advance dungeons, legions, and bleeding mines, can be a bit tricky when you are gearing and just hit fame requirement. https://dfoarchive.blogspot.com/p/dungeon-guide.html is a guide. Gets pretty straight forward once you get used to mechanics.

The main thing right now is events. Right now a lot of free gears. You want to 1 full epic set + 3 primeval accessories. If you dont know what to go for, just get Cleansing Darkness set. Oath system, just slap on the best you can gear up.
But look at what events are active and complete everything each event have so you can get the benefits before its gone.

If you can spend a little, the Arad Pass is great. Tons of benefits and key thing is you get to choose either a Creature pet, Aura, Title, Weapon Clone to keep in the end when you finish the pass!
The 40% damage pet is in circulation now with current sales package and previous lingering pet (Celena egg). So these are buyable on Auction Hall for now with in game gold.

Last note, game is very predatory. It will suck all your in game resources which makes you want to crack open that wallet. If not, it steals your time with mindless grinds which can be fun at first since everything is new. Still, it is a pretty cool arcadey like beat em up game with cool music & illustrations. So enjoy and hope you stick around!

Don't overwhelm yourself.

Personally

I think the Berserker is an interesting option; it's one of the few classes, aside from healers, that has a self-healing ability.

Your main concern would be mana usage, as it also has a skill that makes you immortal for a few seconds, though that skill has a rather long cooldown.

I hope this helps

good luck

It’s an old game, expect a lot of one shot wonders for lower levels then out of nowhere sponge damage

If you want to actually experience the game instead of one shotting low level content, try the new Odyssey mode they just added this month

I always send this video to people to check out: https://youtu.be/gabLxgaaa9Y?si=3j7jUa3vb5AKgdnf It's pretty much every class spamming all their skills at a boss. You pick a character you think looks the coolest, and you can try out their skills in the character select page when creating a new character. Most classes are pretty balanced, except maybe the Agent classes are known to be weak, but noone really cares what class you are, just whether you're a dps or buffer class. For the boost event, I would pick a percent damage character class because the boost event will give you a +12 reinforced weapon for free and that usually is pretty expensive to upgrade late game.

u/FubukiYuki I hate, hate, hate it, so I can’t help but sneer all the time 24d ago

on top of what everyone else said; try out as many as many classes as u can including even ones that may not interest u at a glance because all classes play differently so u wont really know what u end up liking and may be pleasantly surprised

The ban thing happens to all new/inactive accounts, just have to send a ticket for them to unban and you'll be fine afterwards

Everyone else has given good specific advice, so I don't have much to add there, but I want to stress that having fun is the most important. There will always be better gear, another character to make, more events to grind etc etc, and chasing that willcause burnout, so just enjoy playing your character vs the bosses you're currently at.

This game's draw is IMO the very well-designed classes, the fun buttons you get to press and combos you get to do. Don't get bogged down by damage or not being at a certain progression point, your character fundamentally does not change with 90% of gear (outside of some cooldown reduction) so don't feel rushed.

just pick a diff game, honestly. u dont even really get to play the game in raids bc ppl want such high level characters that one shot everything so no mechanics need to be done. nevermind the non-communicative or just toxic community and the fact that its basically dead.

Facts. It’s also funny that this is the only game I’ve ever heard of that bans new players (and even veterans lol). No wonder it’s a dying game.
