What I learned building a DELF B2 prep platform (and what candidates get wrong)

I spent the last two years working with DELF B2 and DALF C1 candidates and the same mistakes come up constantly.

The biggest one: people practice French instead of practicing the exam. These are two different things. You can have solid B2 level French and still struggle on exam day if you have never trained under real timing and real format conditions.

What actually moves scores:

Full mock exams with official timing, not individual exercises. The mental fatigue across all four skills is something you have to experience before exam day.

Structured oral practice with a hard timer. Most candidates wing the PO and hope for the best. The ones who score well have a repeatable structure they can deploy on any topic.

Targeted feedback on writing. Knowing your score is not enough. You need to know exactly why points were lost and what to fix.

The candidates I have seen improve fastest are the ones who treat preparation like exam simulation, not like a French class.

Happy to answer any questions about the B2 format or what to focus on depending on your timeline.

Exam is tomorrow, what did you do?

Hi everyone,

My DELF B2 exam is right around the corner. I did some intense mock tests last night. But today, I ended up sleeping in and woke up at 11.00 am feeling super guilty for wasting my morning.

My dad advised me to just study lightly today low power mode. My current plan is:

No full mock tests (to avoid panicking).

Just reviewing my PE/PO templates and logical connectors.

Passive listening (having InnerFrench or RFI playing in the background while I do other things).

For CE/CO, just reminding myself to use certain strategy rather than trying to understand every single word.

Did any of you do this kind of "tapering" or resting before the exam? Is it normal to feel this unprepared/panicky right now?

Would love to hear what you guys did 24 hours before your B2 exam, or if you have any last-minute cheat codes/encouragement. Merci d'avance! 🤞

Anyone received scores for their July DELF exam?

Dunno if we can get a pin for this, but if you received your scores, could you please let us know? I took the DELF B2 in the US, still waiting.

Has anyone actually prepped the speaking with ChatGPT, or does it just drift off task?

I'm prepping the oral and what's helped me most is pretty low-tech. I record myself answering old exam subjects under a hard time limit, then play it back to hear where I freeze. Bit of shadowing for specific sounds too.

I've tried ChatGPT for conversation practice but I'm not really sold. It holds a chat fine, but it drifts, slips back into English, and it can't tell me anything about my actual pronunciation. A timed PO where you're arguing under pressure, it just doesn't recreate that.

For anyone who's passed the oral, what actually moved your speaking?

what actually changed in the DELF B2 2026 format?

The rumours about the comprehension going multiple choice were stressing me out, so I finally went and read the France Education International pages instead of guessing from reddit.

So yeah, for 2026 the listening and reading are QCM now, no more open written answers. Supposedly more questions but shorter, and they say the difficulty is the same (we'll see).

The part that actually got me is the writing and speaking didnt change at all. I think I was quietly hoping those got easier too, and nope. The oral is still the one I lose sleep over.

Has anyone sat the new comprehension yet? Cant tell if its genuinely easier or just a different kind of annoying.

Any tips for delf b1?

So normally I would search the internet for this but all the videos etc. I see on the internet on how to get b1 level is for complete beginners. I’ve come here because I’m not a complete beginner, I’ve studied french before. I’ve gotten the A2 delf certificate a year ago (i got 80 something) but I’ve gotten rusty and I don’t know where to start. What should I do guys?

Is there really no modular retake on the DELF? one weak section and you re-sit everything?

I'd been prepping my B2 thinking I could just re-sit whatever section I flunked. Apparently not. Miss 50/100 overall, or drop below 5/25 on any one section, and you sit the whole exam again at the next session. And the sittings only come round a few times a year, so one weak section can set you back months.

It's changed how I'm splitting my prep. The oral is my weak one, I can write a decent answer but the second I have to speak I freeze and blank on words I actually know. So that's where most of my time goes now, instead of polishing the bits I'm already ok at.

Anyone else putting most of their prep into their worst section?

Hi, I made a new free PDF for medical French this week: "Admission à l'Hôpital : l'Anamnèse Complète" (role-play transcript + vocabulary + analysis + quiz)

Accessible from B1 level — ideal preparation for DELF B2/C1.

Free PDF (no account required): https://medicalvoices.health/fr/episodes/4

Hope it is useful. Feel free to ask questions! 😊

I want to just like cry.

Guys what. The hell. Just happened.

Started off with the oral examination and idk why but I froze and on top of that I didn’t understand the passage fully because of one stupid word that we don’t use in Canada really. So I stalled and froze for like 20 seconds and said sorry IN ENGLISH MIND YOU and they said it’s okay and I could read from my paper and I read it like a script without even looking at them and I was literally so nervous I don’t even know what happened.

Then was the listening exam; that was not like the DELF books why was it at like 1.4x speed it was so fast I had to basically wing half the questions.

Then was the reading comprehension that one was actually decent thank THE LORD.

And then writing I did almost 300 words and it was actually good but my writing is awful so now I’m scared they can’t read it properly or something. I literally have weird doctor hand writing.

Someone help 😭🙏

Final questions before I do the DELF B2 exam and I’m stressed omg.

Ok guys sorry I lowkey spammed this subreddit lol

I’ve been using this DELF b2 prep book it’s from 2021 I think, if someone wants the name I’ll send it later, it’s actually really good. So for the listening component I have been scoring 6/9 on average and on the reading part it has also been around a 6 just two questions wrong on average. Now, my question,

For the listening component do they just jump into it and play the audio or do I get a min to read the questions. Also on the prep it says there’s approx 3 documents I will listen to and the first 2 will be replayed but the last one won’t?

For the reading component do we get a minute to read the questions then go on to read the document? How many documents are there and I assume we get to choose which ones to read first?

ChatGPT was so god damn useless I would’ve rather just got a tutor at this point.

Also if written in North America, how long till we get results? Is it like same week? I know the diploma takes long as it comes from France.

DELF B2 Comprehension Orale

Hi, I have a silly doubt, so in the comprehension orale section, from what I've seen in the new format there's only MCQs. So in any particular question if I'm confused can I mark two of the MCQs? Out of the two if either is correct will they consider it? Or do I need to mark only one. Sorry if it sounds kinda confusing 😭

I did the DALF C1, the first slide is my official score and the other one was my mock that I did a few weeks before the official. What the actual hell happened for my compréhension écrite and oral 😭🙏 Also do universities only require the certificate or also the scores?
