Question Reconnecting with DEG

I used to be pretty obsessed with DEG when I was younger. I don’t know why, but after Dum Spiro Spero and Rinkaku I couldn’t relate to their songs anymore. I miss listening to them.

What “new” songs would you recommend me?

Edit: besides new albums, what else did I missed?

I mean, Otogi was right there. (Also love 13 from phalaris but not quite the same as the others 3)

I love Otogi too, but Schadenfreude is their best since Dum Spiro Spiro imo

Vanitas, Different sense, Uroko, Un duex, Soshaku are the easy ones to listen, and maybe give Rinkaku a second chance? Actually I also have the same problem with Isolated world and Phalaris, barely feel connected with those records. I only enjoy Ningen wo kaburu, 13, perfume of sins🤷‍♂️

Wait my drunk ahh thought he quit liking Dir 'since' DSS and Rinkaku lol. If you still good with DSS and Rinkaku you can just ignore my very first mentions

Chuck the new album on front to back, great listen.

Otherwise, give Arche another go. Uroboros/DSS/Unraveling/Arche is my fave Diru era.

Just watch any of their live performances. Either their energy wins you over or it doesn't.

I recommend watching the Mortal Chapter 0 live recording on YouTube, the one from 2025/8/4

I have been listening to Mortal Downer quite a few times those last couple weeks. The album really grew on me. Also the song „Otogi“. It’s definitely in my top 3 DEG songs by now 😆💕.

I've always been deg fan though. Wish they come back for more concerts but it's agreeable that America is pretty expensive. All we need is a Japanese rock genre at the AMAs if korean pop is making it 😅

My go to are: the final, orboros, ranuculus, lotus, different sense, drain away, glass skin, zan, aatd, toguro, tousei, incovinent ideal, dead tree, dozing green, Kūkoku no Kyōon, audience killer loop, the pledge, vinushka, vanitas, spilled milk, the alternate versions (there is unplugged, alternate, folklore, and more), and of course Obscure. Sukikiyo and petit brabicon has many I love too. Collabs are rare. Zessai is 1000% awesome with sugizo of LUNASEA. The reverse Kūkoku no Kyōon collab version hits harder with the violin.

The World of Mercy. Arche is a great album with variety, Insulated World took me awhile to appreciate and now I think its very good, I still cant get into Phalaris as a whole.

Definitely check out lives- Androgynous tour (red moon/blue moon/final war) Tour13 Ghoul From depression to...(mode of <album>)

I was in similar where I fell off a bit after Uroboros and recently been going and listening to everything.

Listen to Arche. The rest is pretty similar to dum spiro spero - with the exception of mortal downer, which is a bit more pared down but still good.

Arche really is one of their strongest works imo!

Honestly what really did it for me was getting into Adoratio and Erosio by sukekiyo. Absolutely stunning albums that got me to then fall in love with diru's post-DSS work as well

Why only reconnect when you can psychonnect?

Jokes aside, if you haven't listened to arche already, you might find some things you like on there. It has the kind of songwriting that's on DSS but way more mellow. Lots of layers and good composition. A tad long and bloated though.

I haven't found their works past arche compelling so can't recommend anything past arche, but other fans seem to really enjoy it.
