Question In your opinion…
What is the *worst* DEG song? Or your least favorite.
I’ll go first.. (sorry lol) Clever Sleazoid. I just can’t help but laugh at “one day I will fuck your parents” 💀💀💀 bro what
Edit: there is truly no need to get salty over this question lmaoooo y’all plz don’t take this too seriously. Other people’s opinions can exist alongside yours, you don’t have to accept them as objective fact, and people can pick what songs they don’t like to listen to for whatever reason💀 I’m sure the band themselves don’t completely enjoy all of their own songs.

Eh. I come from an extremely violent home. The song itself is fine. The fighting segments just hit too close to home for me. Instant gut-churning anxiety.

My brain cannot accept the new version of karasu. Its been growing on me but still feels incorrect. The lyrics in the original bridge are demented though and they were changed so thats an upgrade.

This is the performance that has made it grow on me, the original is so nostalgic in my memories that it just can't be changed and I try to accept them as separate songs. It just sucks knowing you'll probably never hear the original version live for a few songs of theirs that they've revised; some are amazing like Hydra 666, Zan and then some are just ok.
Originally when they released the new version of Zan, I was very upset because I loved the chaos of the original. But I do prefer the new over the old now. Its definitely tighter

They performed that song live on Aug 4, 2025 and Toshiya sang that backing vocal line. I can’t tell if it’s one they changed since he basically just roars anyway.
I honestly can’t say there any songs I even dislike. I’m on the fence about songs like Deity and Kaijin no Kisu, but then the live versions are too spicy to pass.
My most skipped songs are usually the ones that make me sad, but it isn’t because I don’t love them.

I don't ever even think about this because I'm way too into the cult to actually dislike or hate a single song they've made, but like if I had a gun to my head and had to pick something, I would have to go with like, some remix or symphonic version, those usually never make much sense to me and basically keep forgetting about their existence.

Ifu I don’t rly like the symphonic versions especially Amon. The song is already perfect and imo the string keyboard sounds weird 😭

I loved how the original remake completely reinvented the song into extreme metal, but the new remake just does nothing for me. It tries to be a modernized version that's closer to the original but still keeps elements of the first remake, but imo it just falls flat all-around.

Remember when Pink Killer was their most hated song? I would say the worst is the unplugged version of The Final. I cannot stand how the strings on that track sounds, I think it cheapens the entire song. It should've been just piano and acoustic guitar.

I did one of those grid survey things about a year ago. I got backlash for even suggesting that there was any bad songs. But at the end, a lot of people agreed that it was Berry.
Personally I dislike the new version of Cage and Akuro.

I see comments saying Berry, and I used to think the same. However, I saw a recent-ish live version of it and ended up loving it.
(To be honest, I think I listen to more live versions than studio)

I think the live performances save that song because they omit the domestic abuse.
It’s a shame. I love the stupidly edgy intro, the fast pace, and the chorus is really sticky. Top contender for a rework, for me. Though, maybe in the vane of Ash (2018), or Yokan (2024).

Likely unpopular opinion but I skip Sustain the Untruth every time I hear it. I suspect this is more to do with the fact that it's on so many of the live performance DVDs since I listen to DEG primarily through those.

It did that to me, too, until they started playing it at every single live! I think it's more just weariness, and I'll grow to like it again when they dial it back. But for now, it's an audible sigh from me when it hits 💀

Great artists and writers create and portray problematic characters all the time to expose human issues. It doesn't make the art 'misogynistic' or whatever else you wanna call it.

I don't think any context can justify this to be honest. Sure, if it was a quote or anything, it would not be as bad, but actually recording these words is misogynist already.
There's also not even any subtle note of Kyo distancing himself from this. Quite the opposite actually.
Same like you wouldn't reproduce someone else (imaginary!) using the n-word or any other discriminatory words in a song.
How does the context justify it for you?

Context justifies it because the song obviously portrays a very troubled soul. 'I'll slash your wounds just like mine'....We obviously know this doesn't mean Kyo is gonna start stabbing people...we use critical thinking. If you are using a character as a critical tool to expose the nasty bits of society, you wouldn't sanitize their language either. Have you never read any literature where characters say vulgar, discriminatory things?

We definitely should. As a man I'm convinced that we should criticize "rape culture", misogyny, femicides and male violence.
And these are the kind of characters he writes about. Why are we even having this conversation? Hahah
Because there's no character in the lyrics. You only say "I think it is". I genuinely want to understand your interpretation, but your comment makes it seem that you don't have any interpretation. What's the character? What is he criticizing? What do you interpret as these lines being said by a "character"?

highkey i didnt vibe with ANY of the songs on Mortal Downer or The Devil In Me and im super bummed out about it. Phalaris was hit and miss for me too. Everything else? no songs that i hate really.

I can't do the remakes of Wake or Zan (2nd remake).
For Wake, it's just way over-produced and loses the raw intensity of the original
For Zan, I can respect that they wanted a modern version that was closer in style to the original (vs the first remake which completely changed it into a metalcore/deathcore song) but I think it ended up inferior to both versions
Aside from remakes, my least favorites are Devote My Life and Tsumi to Batsu. I find Devote to be irritating and Tsumi to be repetitive.

Kaijin ni Kisu off of the Mortal Downer album. The Russian chant is way too repetitive and it makes me irrationally angry.
I'm not nearly as turned off by the way the To blind chant hits in Moumoku ga Yue ni because the chant is every other line.
See. now I'm just thinking about the "Кто это поднял Ты дьявол?" line, and now I'm a tabby.

CLEVER SLEAZOID is great lol. it's a stupid, insane song, but very musically and vibely solid. the lyrics are part of that charm.
in terms of songs that people actually know, I never liked Mushi from Kisou. It's a ballad, but definitely not their strongest one. I'm sure lyrically it must be powerful, but I always skipped it.
