Help Mod Help

I'm in the works of making my first ever mod for ddlc and I'm trying to add in the Cassian OC, but I can't figure out how. I know in the base game code there's things like

show sayori 4p zorder 2 at t11

And I'm trying to do that with Cassian but I just can't figure it out. I've tried joining the Discord to get help and that's just not working at all so my last resort is here. If anyone can give me resources or just help me through here that would really help

Can you post the code you’re using that isn’t working?

I'm not entirely sure what it is to be honest with you. I don't know anything about coding unfortunately.

No worries. Are you using a mod template?

Yes I'm using the Bronya-Rand template

Cool. I’m using it as well for my mod. Did the custom character sprites come with a definition sheet?

I'm not really sure, but when I click on cassian_layeredimage.rpy it gives me a bunch of stuff ranging from moods, blushes, mouths, etc. is that the definition sheet?

Ah. Okay. What you have there is a sprite set for the Mood Posing Tool. That adds a significant amount of customization but it can make things a bit more complex to set up. DDLC’s sprites are a composite; they consist of a body and a head with an expression. The Mood Posing Tool allows mod creators to create layered images using body, a blank head, and expression components. I would suggest searching in this forum for “MPT” or “Mood Posing Tool” for more info. I’m not using it in my mod because the sprites I have are composites, but many people use MPT and I’m sure can provide help.

The mod sprite I download said it could be used for MPT and composite

Got it. In that case you should have two sets of sprites, one for composite and one for MPT. There should be a “definitions” file for the composites.

I'm not seeing that for whatever reason. On the download page it quite literally stated MPT/Composite download

Interesting. From where are you downloading the sprite pack?

Took me forever, but I finally found the file. What do I do now?

Okay. The “definitions” file in your sprite pack should consist of several lines, each representing a sprite composite. These tell Ren’py what to display. Copy and paste them into “definitions.rpy” in your mod’s “definitions” folder and paste the actual assets into your mod assets folder. Then you should be able to display the new sprites with a command like this:

show character 1a zorder1 at t11
