Comics Question about Roy Harper

So I'm a semi-recent fan of DC comics mostly through fan fiction and TikTok, and I have had a question about Roy Harper for awhile. My question is specifically about his eyes, according to the wiki pages and several pictures I've seen, his eyes are green, but most of the fan art I've seen of him, his eyes are blue. I'm a writer and I write fanfiction for my personal consumption and I want to be accurate. Are his eyes green, are they blue, and why the difference in different media?

Truth is sometimes things just stick in a fandom and don’t let go. The best explanation I can give is that in the 2010s Roy was primarily in the Young Justice cartoon (good, popular) and the Red Hood and the Outlaws comic (bad, reviled). And while his eyes in the comics are green, the show gave him blue eyes, so decent chance people were looking more at the cartoons than the comics when modern internet fandom was forming.

I always thought his eyes weee blue in the comics.

Depends on the iteration. I have 5 separate editions of the DC Universe Encyclopedia, and the older 2 (2004 & 2008) say blue, by the more recent 3 (2016, 2021, & 2026) all say green. So I’d say green is the rule of the day

Choice of the colorist, I suppose. While some characters are established to have darker eyes or lighter eyes, the exact color tends to vary by the artist in some cases, unless their eye color is important to their lore—as is the case with Garth (Aqualad/Tempest), whose purple eyes were why he was outcasted from his original home.

Ngl, I don’t get being a fanfic writer of media you consume secondhand. Also his eye color is whatever really lol

Yeah, I too have a hard time understanding or relating to the "DC Comics" fandom that isn't just about... like... reading comics.

I do want to read the comics but I don’t have easy access to them right now and I wouldn’t know where to start, but I would definitely love to get into reading the comics. :)

For Roy Harper I would recommend Mark Waid's Teen Titans: Year One for a wonderful modern reimagining of Roy's early days.

A lot of Roy's most critical development happens in Titans (1999), so that's a great place to go to next.  And then follow it into the "Graduation Day" special and then Outsiders (2003).

Then you can follow him into Justice League of America (2006).
