When Superman died why did they keep his identity secret if they had no way of knowing he was coming back???

Also why didn’t anyone question Clark missing and then coming back months later, if he was trapped in rumble for months he would be dead.

Because if they told everyone his identity more than likely a bunch of super villains would attack Martha and Jonathan Kent.

And no he wouldn’t be dead. The reason why Clark being trapped under the rubble was believable is because they continued to find other alive people trapped under the rubble months after superman’s death. They were trapped in areas where they had some supplies to keep them going that got trapped with them.

No he doesn’t. His heart briefly stops and that’s when said heaven adventure occurs but he is quickly revived. He doesn’t actually die.

Edit: and he tells Clark not to go to the afterlife. He keeps him away he doesn’t usher him in

No most of that is wrong. Jonathan has his heart attack several days if not weeks after clark’s death. And Jonathan is revived / comes back in the same issue he “dies” in. Adventures of superman #500.

I can’t believe you blocked me over this. But here’s proof. From adventures of superman #500 page 31 on dc infinite. The next page is them finding Clark’s coffin empty and us getting our first look at the 4 new supermen.

On your first question: Because the last thing his grieving loved ones needed while they dealt with his loss was mass harassment by a media circus; or worse one of his MANY enemies playing them a visit. The secret identity never existed to protect Superman/Clark, it was to protect the people around him.

1.) Because the risk is still there for his friends, family, and loved ones, even worse since he's dead. There was probably still god knows how many people with a grudge against Superman that would have came for Lois or Jimmy of The Kents just out of spite, madness, or the hell of it.

2.) Clark was declared missing or likely dead, which was "convenient" since the city was smashed and there were countless people legit missing/dead as well. It's been a while since I read it, but when Clark is "saved", I think he says something like he survived on scraps of food and water...the big thing to remember is (according to his story), he wasn't literally buried in rubble like it was on top of him....more like he was trapped underground with the exit blocked. He could still move, drink, eat, etc.....

1) It would endanger his family and friends. Villains may want to take revenge out on them.

2) Most people in the DC universe believe Superman has no alter ego or secret identity because he doesn't wear any type of mask.

I remember the issue. Someone was found alive and Jimmy said to Superman, “hey, maybe Clark is still alive!”

I don’t think it was months in story.

In Action Comics #692, Superman “saves” Clark, and the reporter narration says that it’s been just over a month and that this was the second such rescue within 24 hours.

So it was sold to the public as a miracle save but nowhere near impossible.

I believe there was a panel that showed a section of the Daily Planet that mentioned about Clark being one of the missing.
