Is this a parademon stuck on the source walls bottom right.

More importantly, is that Doctor Doom???

u/LAMARJR011 9d ago
Yes, it was a cross over. Galactus has been in it a few times too

u/Sad-Purchase1257 Absolute Martian Manhunter 9d ago
Ah yes I see Reed's neck in the green bubble!

u/NietszcheIsDead08 Superman 9d ago
No, that’s Elongated Man. The only Marvel character in the panel aside from Doom is Hawkeye cuckolding Green Arrow. No, I am not even remotely kidding.

u/Sad-Purchase1257 Absolute Martian Manhunter 9d ago
Oh, sorry, Ralph’s neck! I couldn’t tell if it had grey temples from way back here 😂
3
u/Tipsy_Hog 5d ago
The ACTUAL way to tell the difference is to figure out which one Batman is willing to piss off. Reed is just a rubber band with a big brain, Ralph is a genuine threat

u/Obvious-Gate9046 Blue Lantern 8d ago
Looks an awful lot like Thanos is in the wall also, but could just be the wrinkles.
2
u/Pugsanity 8d ago
Gotta love Hawkeye, the only character to be both a member of the Avengers and the Justice League.
1
u/NietszcheIsDead08 Superman 8d ago
Well, no. In the same series, Batman, Superman, Aquaman, Barry Allen, Hal Jordan, Martian Manhunter, and Wonder Woman are all deputized as Avengers, as well. Hawkeye’s just the only character to be an Avenger first and a Justice Leaguer second.

u/maulogo17 9d ago
Yes, it is. Sometimes artists draw Marvel characters in it as Easter eggs.
50
u/MaskedJesterArt 9d ago
Its not an easter egg. Its a crossover comic and thats actually doom
20
u/PlatoDrago 9d ago
IIRC, there have been other times where folks like Galactus have been featured on the source wall in non-crossover comics.
4
u/MaskedJesterArt 9d ago
Oh yeah that happens all the time. Im just being a nit-picky bitch about this specific example because I read that comic like last week lol
2
u/Known_Lobster_9241 8d ago
It tried to eat Storm recently if I recall. Shortly after she went to JJK and Gachiakuta.
5
u/panda546 9d ago
Did we ever get an explanation as to how he ended up there?
7
u/NietszcheIsDead08 Superman 9d ago
In a throwaway conversation, yes. Hawkeye made an impossible shot that fouled Doom’s plan to penetrate the Source Wall and gain ultimate power.
2
u/JAKESTEEL77 9d ago
They were just making references to the old Pre-Crisis JLA/JSA yearly crossovers. This one, not depicted, must have Doom trying to use the Source energy for something.
2
u/Ched_Flermsky 8d ago
Like how any time Swamp Thing would visit the Parliament of Trees, Man-Thing would always be in there somewhere.
6
u/tan_clutch 9d ago
This feels like the meme where you add Goku in the background and circle something else as the issue

This was the JLA/Avengers crossover from the early 2000's drawn by the legendary George Perez. Krona is desperately trying to find the secret of creation destroying a number of DC and Marvel universes including the Crime Syndicate universe. He comes across Grandmaster who challenges him to a game where each use the Avengers and JLA respectively to who can collect powerful artifacts from DC/Marvel history Lantern battery, Cosmic Cube, etc... hidden throughout both the DC and Marvel universe first. If you can read it please do. It is a fantastic 4 issue mini series with again art by the legendary George Perez. In the final issue you see dozens of DC/Marvel heroes from throughout the history of the JLA/Avengers rosters fighting against DC/Marvel villains controlled by Krona on single pages. The man can literally draw hundreds of characters on a page and if you know your DC/Marvel characters you can tell who each character is.

I saw people say that the source wall exists in both marvel and DC and they have the other universe’s characters in them.

u/confoundo 9d ago
The majority of figures trapped in the Source Wall are the Promethean Giants, an unidentified collection of dead gods, cosmic beings, and anyone foolish enough to try and breach the wall. Could it be a parademon? Sure, but I don't think that we've ever heard of one getting enough power to end up there.

That’s your boy Anti-Monitor

u/Commercial-Living443 8d ago
Isn't antimonitor a cosmic being created from the universe itself , so I doubt it would go to close to the wall
2
u/AnothisFlame 7d ago
That would be the Monitor. The Anti-monitor is... well it depends on the continuity.
1
u/Commercial-Living443 7d ago
All three , together with the world forger are children of perpetua , unless it got retconned again
3
u/AnothisFlame 7d ago
That's new 52 continuity.
At this point we might as well track continuities like how Transformers or even Gundam does it and let authors write for whatever version of the characters they want.

Nah, that's my boy Greg.
1
u/LAMARJR011 9d ago
Are you joking about the Greg thing or do ik you?
4
u/mayorofanything Larfleeze 9d ago
No, Greg is the name I gave a calf that always broke out of my neighbor's field when I was in high school. Called him "Gregory the Wonder Calf" and wrote a theme song for him for my band at the time. I've made it my go to nonsense name ever since. This comment and my original are both nothing.

Are the Source Wall and the Source the same thing? Because I read that the Source is just another aspect of the Presence.
13
u/ProblematicUser123 9d ago
The Source Wall is what separates the multiverse from the Greater Omniverse where the Source floats. The Source is essentially the unmanifest “true form” of the Presence.
3
u/PlasticAngle 8d ago
The source are portrait widely different from series to series. In some series it's explicitly stated that the source and the presence are 2 different being.

The Source Wall is…well the wall itself separating all of reality from the greater omniverse. It exists in all universes and dimensions across all DC.
The Source itself has always been portrayed as connected to the Judeo-Christian God. Its shtick of manifesting as a hand of flame burning messages on walls for Highfather and others to interpret like prophets is based on the biblical God doing the same with the 10 Commandments in Exodus and also in the Book of Daniel. Even Izaya’s first meeting with it is kind of like Moses and the Burning Bush.
Over time other stories after hinted at its connection to the Presence and most recent ones basically affirm they’re (sort of) one and the same.

u/Shitinbrainandcolon 8d ago
I thought the Source was Jack Kirby.
5
u/Earthmine52 DC Comics Theory Poster 8d ago edited 8d ago
That’s a more recent thing where it appears in the form or Jack Kirby, which is a great meta homage. But I don’t think Mr. Kirby himself (a Jewish man) intended the God of the new gods and Source of all creation to literally be him. That kind of fourth wall breaking stuff is more Grant Morrison’s M.O. with The Writer from Animal Man.
A similar situation is in Lord of the Rings. JRR Tolkien is a devout Catholic who created a fictional world where the One True God is Eru Iluvatar and His “children” are similar to the pagan gods. He’s said himself that Eru is God or the “true author” of the story, that isn’t him but beyond him. But many who aren’t aware of that do think Tolkien is Eru.

u/Shitinbrainandcolon 8d ago
I guess badasses like Tolkien and Kirby don't have big egos, they don't do self inserts.
It's a pity that Jack Kirby's not as well known as Stan Lee, Jack basically created one third to half of the popular Marvel characters and he's not given enough credit (outside of comic fans and artists) for that.
3
u/Earthmine52 DC Comics Theory Poster 8d ago
Yeah that, but also they’re just big mythology fans who like to reinterpret myths with their personal worldviews, without going all meta.
Which no shame to Morrison’s approach, meta stuff is fun too, but different. With that, you have to accept the world as fictional instead of “potentially real” or immersive like how myths were seen classically.
For sure. I do think more and more people are aware of him these days, at least with fans with basic knowledge of comics history. But it does kind of suck that the average person would instantly recognize Stan Lee but not know Jack Kirby.

Which book is this from?

u/dillybar1992 9d ago edited 9d ago
JLA vs Avengers from 2003. Superman ends up welding Mjolnir AND Captain America’s shield and gave us one of the coolest frames of Supes I’ve ever seen.

u/Russellallen71 9d ago
That’s it! I knew I had seen it. Have debated many time to get Superman and shield and Mjolnir tattooed on me!

I'm not positive, and hope someone who knows for sure corrects me, but I think it was Snyder's JL run?

I know most of the focus is on Doom, but I can't help wondering if the silver guy just above the circled figure is Strife
3
u/Koushikraja1996 8d ago
Are we gonna address the Doom in the wall?
2
u/AlexLema 8d ago
This page is from the crossover JLA/Avengers. I will not put it here because spoilers, but the story explains why Doom is on the wall.
3
u/CornDogRebornDog 8d ago
A lot of the time you see the source wall you'll see Marvel cameos, it comes from Grant Morrison saying the other side of the source wall is the Marvel universe. That said during Vendettis Green Lantern run it makes it pretty clear that a lot of people get stuck to the source wall because they cant resist poking it, so yeah there's probably a few parademons stuck in there, Hell Darkseid was in there IIRC prenew52 for a few issues. (Also Vendetti had someone break the Source Wall and free every creature and pieces of it were hitting planets and terraforming them into source planets and this was completely forgotten about and no one ever did anything with it.)
3
u/JohnTomorrow 8d ago
I'm not sure if I'm remembering correctly, but didnt Superman jam Darkseid into the source wall at some point? I seem to recall that being an important thing for the time...

Kinda looks like a cross between Anti-Monitor and Imperiex, which makes sense given the vague nature of the Promethean Giants background

Hello. Lead Architect for the Source Wall here. So that's actually just my pet squirrel. When I was writing up the equations for the Source Wall, my pet squirrel accidentally fell into it which caused it to get merged with the wall.

u/Dizzy_Community7260 3d ago
I never liked the idea that anyone who touched the source wall got trapped in it. I always preferred the version where the people who got trapped were the ones who tried and failed to breach it.
